Nothing on that list justifies Hosner's presence among the finalists.  I'd call his inclusion over Mauer's an outrageous snub.

Exactly

I think you can make an argument just based on innings played, amd based on the volatility of defensive metrics, giving some weight to previous seasons is not egregious.

Plus, there is a decent chance that Mauer ended up 4th. Is it really an outrageous snub to.be 4th instead of 3rd?

Agree to disagree that previous seasons should be a consideration at all.

This is a yearly award.

The eye test says Mauer should be a finalist.  Even today's hallowed advanced metrics say Mauer should be a finalist.  Further evidence that the Gold Glove is the biggest joke of the major awards.  17 errors total from left side of Twins' infield says it all...that number is doubled  if not for Mauer.  We probably shouldn't get too worked up about it b/c I doubt Joe gives a s--t if he wins it or not.

The selection process for the Gold Gloves has become a complete joke in recent years, and to me at least, devalues the award.  That said, if Buxton does not win, we riot!!!!!

Since I think the GG award is pretty much useless at this point, I don't think anything is truly egregious, except maybe the award itself, I do think it laughable Mauer not receive consideration. If innings played is a consideration, then they should up the line for qualifying, especially if it is the difference maker for voters. I also think one of the above posters made an interesting point ... errors saved ... although that's truly hard to qualify, but from my eye test, I'd say Mauer had plenty of those from Polanco and Sano. But then ... I couldn't say how many of those any of the others had, either.

Get 'em ready.

Buxton is a no brainer to us who watch him, probably the most amazing CF I've ever seen. Baseball likes to honor the usual suspects tho, and Mauer's treatment is pretty typical of how I expect this to go down.

I guess Hrbek never getting one should have taught us that lesson.

Don Mattingly won 9 GG's while Kent Hrbek was also active. While Mattingly was a good defensive 1B he was no Kent Hrbek. Well intentioned though it may be, GG is the most farcical of all annual awards.

Hrbek was so good he could keep opponents out of contact with the bag ninja-like.

I dunno man ... I remember getting bashed for saying Mauer would not be a finalist due to the Gold Glove being a popularity contest ....

And now people are acting surprised? Hmm... Seems to me this was predictable as all hell! Sometimes some of you just want to fight, I think.

If Mauer is as good next year he will be considered, probably. One good year isn't enough to get him on voter's radar. If he bashes 25 home runs (which yes has nothing to do with defense) then even moreseo.

I for one am not surprised. As I said before, the Gold Glove winds up going to undeserving recipients more often than any other award in the game.

Yes. The Gold Glove is a popularity contest, and thus an utterly useless award. It's an award designed to sell baseball gloves to kids. It's the award equivalent of all star game voting.

It's also doubled if MLB allowed errors to be charged.
