Dodgers make inquiry on Dozier

Dozier would be LA's backup plan if they can't get Ian Kinsler from Detroit.  IDK, Dozier is 5 years younger than Kinsler and has pretty agreeable contract.

"Los Angeles is obviously looking in other places for a second baseman, and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports notes that they have made contact with the Twins on Brian Dozier — who’d also be a quality, right-handed bat who comes with two years of control."

Edit:  Forgot to add, Ian Kinsler Won’t Waive No-Trade Clause Without Extension.

Makes it look more likely for the Dozier trade.

Did I miss the part where Kinsler is first choice and Dozier is one of the back up plans?

Or is that an assumption based on there being details of talks while no details of the Twins/Dodgers discussion?

How about Dozier for:

Brock Stewart - Huge fastball (97) and pitched in MLB in 2016 (25 yrs old)

Jacob Rhame - Another big arm (100+  MPH) - MLB ready (23 yrs old)

Chris Anderson - former 1st rd pk - From Minnesota (24 yrs old)

We gain 3 quality high velocity arms to add to a young core of bullpen relievers.  The Twins would then have arguably the hardest throwing bullpen in the league.  Great year for all those arms to find their way.

95 MPH across the board - We are only going to get so much for Dozier IMO

Clayton Kershaw or bust!

It'll be a tough pill to swallow at first.... But in order to acquire Kershaw, I'll throw in Centeno, D Santana, and ABW to make it happen ;)

I'm not sure those three would A) be the best return for Dozier and B ) if trading Dozier is the best way to improve the bullpen.  Perhaps FA or other trades could upgrade the pen without using our best trade chip.

I think they can aim higher, especially than just bullpen guys. I would needYadier Alvarez, and I think you can get Jose De Leon and maybe even another piece, like Yusniel Diaz or Jordan Sheffield.

Maaaaaybe if you throw in Duensing, they'd do the deal.

Wait. We don't have Duensing anymore. Guess we can't trade Dozier.

The Twins need to be blown away by a deal. Dozier is cost-controlled and will probably command a high price at the trade deadline next year.

Do the Jays have anything left in the farm system? Figure Tulahoweveryouspellhisname goes down and the Jays are desperate for the bat at the deadline.

Ah, the hot stove league, where fantasy and reality rarely cross paths.

Dodgers are the best fit

Dozier would be a perfect addition to that club.

Get Urias and throw in any non pitchers (not named Sano or Buxton) to make it happen. Throw in Rosario plus whoever if you have to.

Talk loudly with the Giants and Nationals so the Dodgers hear you.

I read somewhere else that Buehler and another player, I think Sheffied, would be a good tradeoff for Dozier.  Can't find where I found that, I'll try and find it, but looking at those guys and taking into account Dozier's age, the amount of years left under control and the fact that this year will seem his absolute peak and out of the norm, seems about right.

Thoughts?

I'd aim higher or ask for a third piece, but it's pretty realistic.

I wouldn't be shocked if the Dodgers would trade De Leon for Dozier straight up. I'm not sure that De Leon's ceiling is all that great, plus he had some shoulder inflammation this past season. At 24 there's probably not much room for improvement.

The Dodgers signed Cuban Hector Olivera for $62.5MM and traded him a few months later, so I don't know that their other Cuban signings would be off the table . . . the whole point of overpaying for prospects is to build depth.

I'd ask for Alvarez, Sheffield or Lux, and Barnes as a throw-in, and even that would make me a little nervous because the Twins could easily wind up with zero to show for the trade. Getting De Leon would be much different in the sense that he would go straight into the MLB rotation, but I have no idea how highly the Dodgers actually value him.

First phone call the Twins need to ask for Urias.

The Dodgers will chuckle.

They offer a crappy trade.

The Twins chuckle.

But if the Twins can't get a package including Jose De Leon - Plus... they hang on to him.  They need elite for Dozier, not just a return of whatever.

I remember when Johan first demanded a trade people thought we could land Kershaw, Kemp, AND Broxton.

If Terry were in charge we would get Ruiz and Blanton.

I think LaRoche was the 3rd piece... but Johan also made it clear he didn't want to go to LA.  That kind of torpedoed that one from the start. I remember the Dodgers being a bit miffed when Bill Smith didn't call them back.

Fully agree with Seth. Any Dozier trade to the Dodgers should START with DeLeon and go from there. No point in trading him if you're just going to ask for a couple of bullpen pieces.

When MLBTR posts these items, they are in reverse time order.  So the first post is at the bottom.  Here's the current link:

   http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/11/ian-kinsler-trade-rumors-dodgers-tigers.html

At the 2:52 time-stamp, there are 3 lengthy paragraphs pertaining to Kinsler.  The last paragraph mentions Dozier, along with Brandon Phillips, Cesare Hernandez and Chase Utley.

The last [now the 1st] posting mentions Ken Rosenthal has reported "that they have made contact with the Twins on Brian Dozier".

To summarize:  Kinsler is LA's 1st choice, Dozier 2nd.

IMHO:  With Dozier's age, friendly contract, a great last year, etc. I would probably pick Dozier over Kinsler.  Just one man's opinion   :)

Control?  Can those big, high velo arms hit the strikezone on a regular basis?  Just asking....

bid early, bid often.  Let's hope that a few other teams contract the Twins about him.

Lie, cheat, steal if you have too !

Nah, those new guy's seem too squeaky clean.  They'll learn.  I can teach that!
