Dodgers make inquiry on Dozier

No need to trade Dozier now, if you aren't blown away hold onto him and trade him at deadline or next off season

Trade Dozier this winter. It is almost impossible for him to have a higher trade value than right now. If he keeps performing at the same high level for the next 2 years the Twins will not be able to afford him so sell high while you can. You know with the luck the Twins have he will have a slow start and then be under such pressure to perform and end up having an average to poor year. Package him up in a blockbuster deal and let the real rebuilding begin.

Really, I think I'm being dispassionate in this debate when I say I'd absolutely go for Dozier over Kinsler if I were the Dodgers. No knock on Kinsler, who is an outstanding ballplayer, but you have to get him to bypass his no trade, which probably brings about more guaranteed money, and he's already making far, far more than Dozier. Even a team with the pockets of the Dodgers have to recognize value and financial restraint at some point don't they? Dozier is younger, less likely to see sudden regression in the next couple of years, and may be slightly easier to pluck from the Twins, prospect wise, if Detroit's demands are to be believed.

Not saying the Twins shouldn't shoot big or settle, and thee difference in prospects/players traded may be minimal, but is Kinsler that much better...short and long term...than Dozier? I'd think not. Even straight up trade value to both teams, Dozier is younger and cheaper.

How surplus value is determined for prospects ranked in categories.  Top 10 (pitchers and hitters), next 10, etc.  Explains how teams get a lot of surplus value from the best prospects based on WAR accumulated while they are getting paid during their pre-arbitration years.  Worth reading if one is interested.

'By going back through Baseball America’s Top 100 lists from 1994-2005, we can evaluate 12 years worth of players and see how their careers went during their team-controlled years of zero to 6 years of service time.  This is when a team gets the most value out of a prospect, as they can pay them $500,000 for the first three years and then depressed salaries through the arbitration process for the next three years.'

(the above link is 2 years old, so surplus values have gone up just a bit, but it's more in-depth explanation than the below link)

Walker has a lot of unrealized potential.  It could very well stay that way. Segura may or may not have turned a corner. I am actually intrigued by Haniger, who Seattle is getting.

Liking what we're seeing from Haniger (even taking into account BABIP being too high).Too bad he got hurt.
