Minnesota Twins infielder Tsuyoshi Nishioka, a product of Japan who joined the team in 2011, asked for and was granted his release on Friday. By asking for his release, Nishioka gave up the $3.25 million remaining on his contract.

Nishi looks like a good signing compared to Park so far.

Come on, that's not even a little true.  At least Park hits the ball hard.  I still have no idea what Nishioka did.

I respect him greatly for realizing he was way over matched and no longer wished to experience humiliation in America and asked for release.  That takes A LOT OF GUTS to do something like that in todays day and age with that much money at stake.

It is the one thing that I greatly respect of the Japanese people in comparison to American culture.  Honor is everything even when big money is involved. Very very few Americans would have done the same in a similar situation.

I am a Park guy and hold out some hope for his future and potential. However, at least the Nishi signing filled a need. Park's signing was unnecessary and ineffective and complicated the depth chart.

Didn't he have to retire from the Twins to go back to Japan because otherwise the Twins owned his rights? In other words, he left Twins' money on the table, but didn't necessarily leave money on the table generally. Seems to me like he's probably worth a lot more in Japan.

Well, the Nishioka signing prompted the Hardy for Hoey trade. Not sure there was any great need for Nishi before that...

Yup, IIRC he ended up losing SOME money (at least that first year), but not near the full amount since he went to Japan and played/got paid over there. In fact I believe he ended up signing a 2 year deal with more guaranteed overall money, which is why I think the "praise" for him quitting was a little over blown, the guy clearly how no desire to work himself back onto the roster anyways.

Pathetic.

Man, I love Sarah Mclachlan

Fun fact, Youtube actually took that down for about 6 months due to a copy right strike by her (her people), I actually won the appeal on the basis that it was clear parody.

It was over three days into the season when Nishioka stood like a statue at 2B and Nick Swisher broke his leg on a DP.

I was at that game, it looked so brutal in real time.

Poor guy had no business starting the season in the MLB.

TROLPO.....where for art thou TROLPO?

In these dark days we could use your insights.

I miss Fatbeer too (who makes a cameo in the video above) also the random post from RonGardenhire himself every 8th months telling us about a blackout encounter in his dorm room with some co-ed.

Nice job btw.

I had no problem with the signing.   Ichiro had a better track record in Japan but was really just as likely to bust or succeed.   I did have a problem with completely relying on Valencia, Nishioaka and Casilla as a result of trading Hardy.     Hindsight says we shouldn't have relied on any of them.  At the time I thought the worst thing was getting rid of Hardy.  We needed the stability.

Fatbeer was confused, mentally and sexually. I think rocketpig knew who trolpo was the entire time. Really curious why he didn't make the transition. Perhaps the elves finally caught up to him. Now he'll have to live the rest of his life knowing Douglas> Tyson mayweather< rousey man scarf< Coors light

I could have sworn Pig didn't know who Trolpo was, I recall looking at the IP and it didn't match anyone other poster (ABUSE OF MOD POWERS!!1!) Of course Trolpo could have been using a VPN. My money was on Ofx, Kobs (why not?) or Hawk.
