How about Ozzie Guillen for the next Twins manager?

Other than Ozzie was fired from the Miami Marlins because of his continued praise for Fidel Castro?

Nope, no thoughts here.

Continued praise? Give me a break, it was a dumb comment but it wasn't exactly saying endorsing him:

I respect Fidel Castro," Guillen said in the article. "You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that [expletive] is still here."

Dumb comment? Yup! But Guillen apologized.

Meanwhile the Twins basically rolled out the red carpet for Torii Hunter last year who in his career disparaged an entire group of people (homosexuals) multiple times, and endorsed candidates with anti LGBT legislation. Oh and he also had some really dumb comments about latin players. Keep in mind, Hunter never apologized for any of this. Of course he was an original Minnesota Twin, so everyone forgives him.  Guillen makes a stupid comment, apologizes yet a bunch of Minnesota (non Cuban mostly) fans hold it against him 5 years later.

Hmmmm, maybe our anti White Sox bias is getting the best of some of us.

If you don't want Guillen, then that's fine, he has his cons, but to use some faux outrage of a dumb comment (which he apologized for) 4-5 years ago is just kinda lazy.

Dave Martinez or Gabe Kapler.

Add Mark DeRosa (serious) to that list as well.

I really would prefer a spanish speaker though, the Twins have had a tough time lately with some of their top Latin prospects, something seems to be lost in translation at times. (Short leash with Berrios, Rosario, comments about Sano behind the scenes etc)

There are 30 MLB teams, 28 of the current managers are white (93%). Only 55-58% of current MLB players are white, seems to be a market inefficiency in here somewhere...

DeRosa based on what?  He hasn't been in the game in any fashion since he left (as far as I know) other than being a TV personality.  Is there event a hint he wants to be a manager?

Probably going to be the next Braves manager.

Ibanez can speak it, although it is not his native language.

Both Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com and Mark Bowman of MLB.com wrote forward-looking pieces pertaining to the Braves and potential long-term successors for Fredi Gonzalez following the skipper’s dismissal this week. Crasnick lists former Braves infielder Mark DeRosa, currently an MLB Network analyst, as a possibility, noting that a pair of execs with different clubs each mentioned him.

I'll believe it when it happens. Though it sounds like something the Braves (John Hart) would do.

Have you seen DeRosa on MLB network? He is very sharp, "new school" guy who understands shifts, analytics, etc

He would make a solid managerial candidate IMO.

Sure I've seen him.  He seems like a smart enough fellow.  Not sure I'd qualify him as a new school guy. I'd still rather have Dave Martinez or Kapler first.

Have you seen Mrs. DeRosa though?

He's a good candidate with an inaccurate reputation, but, unfairly or not, he's in large part responsible for that reputation with his tendency to make himself the story, so no thank you. It would be the triumph of hope over experience to think that his behavior won't be more idiosyncratic in his next job. Maybe he'd be a fit for a veteran team that needs someone to rally "us against the world," for a year or two, but there are plenty of other good candidates without the established risk factor.

Please yes. In my opinion, the worst thing he'll do is get in trouble with the media. I personally don't think field managers have much to do with a team's success, so let's go out and hire the guy that  will provide the most entertainment.

Thoughts? I can't think of one reason why this would be a good idea?

The #1 reason it would be a good idea is that it would completely spin the way-too-white and straight-laced "Twins culture" on its head.

(That's the only reason though...)

Almost 50 posts, and not a single mention of piranhas?

Up your games, people.

So, it's an Amazon River colonoscopy, then?

Ozzie always had a way of stirring controversy.  His Miami thing was an egregious lack of good judgement, nothing more.  He wasn't trying to be offensive, and if the wheels weren't already coming off his team, he might have survived.  I've always admired Ozzie for taking the heat for his players and getting the best from his talent.  Doesn't mean I want him to coach the Twins.  Relations with Cuba are softening.  I don't think it would be the worst hire possible, I would predict some initial success followed by a quick departure when things went bad.  But a longer run than Mollie is likely to have.

If the Twins end up deciding to get a new manager, I have just one thing to say about it.

1. I can see major benefit to having a manager who speaks Spanish and English.

2. I would like to see way more ethnic diversity in leadership positions in MLB.

3. I would like to see more ethnic diversity in ownership.

I'll pass on Ozzie. Especially if Ryan's the man at the top. Their mutual admiration would likely usher in the second generation of those stupid piranhas that I hated so much.

Unless there's a seismic shift in the way this team does business, there won't be changes in the front office or the manager's office. They'll most likely Allen, Bruno and Eddie into the new Stelmaszek, White and Liddle. Meanwhile, Terry, Molitor and Ulger will remain unscathed.

If, however, for some reason Molitor becomes the fall guy, I still don't see them venturing outside of their comfort zone and looking for external candidates.

If that's the case, I'd like to see Mientkiewicz and Chad Allen come up. The young hitters seem to thrive with them. Don't know if that's coincidence, coaching methods or familiarity, but they seem to get results out of the guys that need to show results - i.e. Buxton, Sano, Kepler, Polanco, etc.

But, yeah, definitely no Ozzie.

The heck with Guillen. If the old man wasn't half the age of Chief, I would propose Fidel Castro as manager of the Twins. He loves baseball, he has lead young men into battle against all odds and has achieved victory. Although authoritarian in nature, he has lead a small market country against the biggest market country in the world and held his own for 50 years. I know, he is too old now, but Fidel would be my first choice if he were 30 years younger. He would probably wrestle away ownership from the Pohlads and he would use the iconic illustration of Che Guevera as our new logo. That would be cool!

Viva La Revolución… Viva Gemelos!!!
