Dick, completely dispirited. 38 games in, 124 left to go...Dick is going to be drinking heavily in the booth before the end of the season.

On the other hand, on the Spanish broadcast Tony Oliva & Alfonso Fernandez still seem to be rather optimistic, both regarding this game tonight & the season.

May was arguably our best starter last summer, which was used as partial justification to move him into the pen so that Milone and Pelfrey could do their starting rotation thing.

So yeah, it's time to move May back into the rotation.

MAY was never the best starter last year!  I will repost May's stats from last year (starter -only!)

74.1 IP    39 R    38 ER    14 starts    8 quality starts    4.60 ERA

Every starter last year was better than May except Nolasco.

This is terrific. It's not all Molitor's fault, but you have to do something. The easiest and probably right thing to do here as far as a manager.

True it's not all his fault.  He's got a lineup with big holes, and starters that have woefully under-performed, and a stinky bullpen, but he's really not made the kind of moves at any time to put his people in the best situations he can.

I hope this is true

This is one of those times where everything we do is wrong. It's time to fire Molitor as an act of mercy so he doesn't have to watch this anymore.

What about us? Why are we not spared?

This could apply to last night's game, or to tonight's game ...

Aren't we going to give Aaron Gleeman's 40th-ranked Twins prospect Pat Dean a few starts first?   Lefties who throw 88 don't grow on trees, ya know.

That's the second post you've made that made me chuckle outloud. Is there a button for that?

This is dick's go to

That was supposed to say fire the manager.

I wouldn't worry about it.   Nothing else has gone right in the last half hour.

The much-maligned starter was doing fine. Sure, there were some bullets being hit, but once the bases emptied after the sac fly, he at least earned a chance to finish the 7th. Why bring in the stinky bullpen?

If Hughes tanked in the 7th all of you would be flaming Molitor for leaving Hughes in too long!

What a mess.

If hey DFA Gulfa, who comes up?

Boshers- not on the 40 man.

Meyer- who's been raked over the coals by Molly's mismanagement- and stick him back in the BP, and totally jack with him?

Chargois- who's on the 40, but is he ready to take a beating up in the Show?

It's a cluster, allright.

I had to edit this one, cuz just to increase my pain, I checked on reserve catcher John Hicks-  he of the 1.016 OPS with the Erie Seawolves.

Meyers was awful. I don't get this mismanagement thing. We'll see ... We'll see ...

Then just f-ing stall until it rains or someone dies and they have to call the game. It's not that damn difficult.

Not really. We're not dummies here. We saw he was pitching well. With a one run lead and two outs to get, if he put a few on, I would have yanked him.

Good, he can join the rest of us.

This is bad-  just stowed my lunch in the teacher's room fridge- somebody's left a bottle of Bailey's in there....

I did say "arguably" :)

I wasn't arguing it, but some people were (pretty convincingly). In fact, I was behind the move to the bullpen.

This season is lost. It's time to stretch May back out for the rotation.

Would it be better to hope the Twins lose? We could hold out hope that if they lose enough it will bring change?

Well right now, they're about on pace for 40 wins. I would think that would bring change.

Why is that?

No idea. I guess they aren't as pessimistic as most of us. But that's something I've noted over the last 4 years that I've regularly listened to the Spanish broadcasts is that they're very optimistic about the Twins.

While nobody enjoys using hindsight to unfairly malign a manager more than I do,  my take when Hughes was pulled was that Molitor   a) deserved credit for having the courage to pull a veteran starter after 75 or so pitches, and   b} that he must have seen something he reeeally didn't like in order to even consider doing a).
