I think if the Tigers win tomorrow that would be the 8th sweep of the Twins so far this season.

The twins have won 10 games. This is historically terrible. No hyperbole needed. I keep waiting for them to play some decent ball, like .500 type play for a few weeks, and it just hasn't happened, at this point it may not happen at all this season, and I would be thrilled with a month or two of .430-.450 type play.

Good lord.

NO, not me!  I lame the FO  early and often.  Many posters are in love with a very tall pitcher who throws very fast--but there is far more to pitching than speed.  As long as the game is decided  by which team scored the most runs, I will favor pitchers who consistently prevent the opps from scoring.  K/ ratio, FIP, and other modern metrics are fine--as long as people remember they are secondary to runs allowed.  Stats are indicators and symptoms but people can not  focus on the trees and ignore the forest!

Whichever numbers you focus on,  the Twins don't have enough trees right now for a decent bonfire,  let alone a forest.    Traditional counting stats vs. advanced metrics is just... sketch of the crime scene vs.  photograph of it.

Not really. We're not dummies here. We saw he was pitching well. With a one run lead and two outs to get, if he put a few on, I would have yanked him.

See my post on Nick Nelson's article about Hughes ...

I can't believe I spent money to see the twins in Fenway this July. I should just open my window and throw the tickets out.

Sweah ta Gawd, you go out theah, and weah your Twinkies hat, you're gonna get a wicked numbah of sympathy beeahs.  You oughta go anyway.

Sorry Chief, almost forgot to add his most insightful comment.  "We couldn't get out of the 7th".

He could have added, "nor last place" :(

rant on.....

I got back late in the afternoon from a meeting and got the chance to see the Twins, with a lead, in the 7th inning.  Then Hughes get's taken out, Dick and Bert babbling endlessly and no sign of Marni looking for an answer.  Flicked it off when Tonkin blew the save, flicked it back on to watch Trevor May turn into

May Day again.

Turns out Hughes has shoulder weakness, this early in the season?

It's the same thing over and over:  what the Hell were they doing in Spring Training?  All these injuries this early in the season.  Several poor performances from "key" players?  How can the Twins be this poorly prepared?  Is this not what Spring Training for?

....rant off.

MAY was never the best starter last year! I will repost May's stats from last year (starter -only!)

74.1 IP 39 R 38 ER 14 starts 8 quality starts 4.60 ERA

Every starter last year was better than May except Nolasco.

If you recall, May had some crazy bad luck and defense behind him. Best FIP, I think. I could check, but I'm a lazy, lazy man.

I had seriously high hopes for May.........

Still waiting for some return on those two trades.......

two starting center fielders who bat leadoff...for a middle reliever. You'd think the Twins would give May a shot in the rotation for that alone.

I would still take May for Revere every single time.

When he got demoted he had the most WAR of any starter (still ended up 3rd in WAR as a starter even though he only had 16 starts), best FIP (didn't change), best K/9 (didn't change), 2nd best BB/9 (didn't change), best LOB% (didn't change) and to your point, yeah, crazy bad luck on balls in play.  Team worse .344 BABIP.
