Okay, going for Double Jeopardy where the scores can really change.

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I say to myself
What wonderful world

It was 1967, and, being an avid Twins fan, the great Satchmo had a lot to be happy about that year.

The Twins played brilliantly, winning 91 games and finishing just one game behind the AL pennant winning BoSox.    Harm socked 44 homers,  Rod Carew was AL Rookie of the Year,  and dizzy Dean Chance won 20 games.

Actually, I have no idea if Louis Armstrong was a Twins fan;  probably not.  But 91 wins would be song-worthy relative to this Twins squad.

Hi gang-

Wow, I just got the Russian baseball stream up in time to see that last play at short-  Who the heck is THAT guy, I thought.

Oh.

Polanco.

He's not in his usual spot on the pine today, how nice.    What a pick and throw===========

#bargain?

Implying high value per dollar spent,  or...?

Now, I'm thinking I got here just in time to see the boys eat Pelf alive--  let's go, guys.  Our turn for an 8-run inning.

Posted

At the rate Pelfrey is pitching, I'm going to be able to finish "War and Peace."

Posted

Baseball is really a funny game, both pitchers are getting there brains beat in, and its scoreless. Whoops I spoke too soon, Plouffe and Dozier are not into brain beating! :))

Now Bert is making fun of his pitcher's duel comment.  I have been vindicated.

Although there's a point at which it actually does become a duel, I suppose.

That off season trip to the Steve Trachsel Pitching Academy really paid off.

But hey,  a guy with a career ERA+  of 98 and a FIP of 4.84 can take as long as he wants between pitches, because talent.

Edit :  HRD, not Pelfrey's numbers.  Don't have the stomach to look those up.

I realize Polanco's seems to have too many errors, and there have always been questions about arm strength, but that is the type of athletiscm I would like to see in the Twins regular shortstop. There's something to be said for making the common plays regularly, but there's also a lot to be said for stealing hits like that one.

Okay, going for Double Jeopardy where the scores can really change.

I see trees of green, red roses too
I see them bloom for me and you
And I say to myself
What wonderful world

I see skies of blue and clouds of white
Bright sunny days, dark sacred nights
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world

The colors of the rainbow are so pretty in the skies
Are also on the faces of people walking by
I see friends shaking hands saying
How do you do?
They're really saying
I love you

I see babies cry, I watch them grow
They'll learn much more than I'll ever know
And I think to myself
What a wonderful world
Yes, I think to myself
What a wonderful world
And I say to myself
What a wonderful world.

I concede defeat. I was going to take the easy way out with John Lennon's Imagine, but that seemed lame. I choose Burl Ives "Big Rock Candy Mountain" instead. Audio included.

Oh the buzzin' of the bees in the cigarette trees
The soda water fountain where the lemonade springs
And the bluebird sings in that Big Rock Candy Mountain

On a summer day
In the month of May
A burly bum came ahiking
Down a shady lane
Through the sugar cane
He was looking for his liking
As he strolled along
He sang a song
Of the land of milk and honey
Where a bum can stay
For many a day
And he won't need any money

Oh the buzzin' of the bees in the cigarette trees
The soda water fountain where the lemonade springs
And the bluebird sings in that Big Rock Candy Mountain

In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
The cops have wooden legs
The bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The farmers' trees are full of fruit
The barns are full of hay
I want to go where there ain't no snow
Where the sleet don't fall and the wind don't blow
In that Big Rock Candy Mountain

There's a lake of gin
We can both jump in
And the handouts grow on bushes
In the new-mown hay
We can sleep all day
And the bars all have free lunches
Where the mail train stops
And there ain't no cops
And the folks are tender-hearted
Where you never change your socks
And you never throw rocks
And your hair is never parted

Oh the buzzin' of the bees in the cigarette trees
The soda water fountain where the lemonade springs
And the bluebird sings in that Big Rock Candy Mountain

Oh, a farmer and his son,
They were on the run
To the hay field they were bounding
Said the bum to the son,
"Why don't you come
To that big rock candy mountain?"
So the very next day
They hiked away,
The mileposts they were counting
But they never arrived
At the lemonade tide
On the big rock candy mountain

Oh the buzzin' of the bees in the cigarette trees
The soda water fountain where the lemonade springs
And the bluebird sings in that Big Rock Candy Mountain

1. One evening as the sun went down
And the jungle fires were burning,
Down the track came a hobo hiking,
He said, "Boys, I'm not turning
I'm heading for a land that's far away
Beside the crystal fountain
I'll see you all this coming fall
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
Chorus:

In the Big Rock Candy Mountain,
It's a land that's fair and bright,
The handouts grow on bushes
And you sleep out every night.
The boxcars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
I'm bound to go
Where there ain't no snow
Where the sleet don't fall
And the winds don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain.
Chorus:

3. In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
You never change your socks
And little streams of alkyhol
Come trickling down the rocks
O the shacks all have to tip their hats
And the railway bulls are blind
There's a lake of stew
And ginger ale too
And you can paddle
All around it in a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain

Oh the buzzin' of the bees in the cigarette trees
The soda water fountain where the lemonade springs
And the bluebird sings in that Big Rock Candy Mountain

In the Big Rock Candy Mountain
The cops have wooden legs
The bulldogs all have rubber teeth
And the hens lay soft-boiled eggs
The box-cars all are empty
And the sun shines every day
I'm bound to go
Where there ain't no snow
Where the sleet don't fall
And the winds don't blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain.

Oh the buzzin' of the bees in the cigarette trees
The soda water fountain where the lemonade springs
And the bluebird sings in that Big Rock Candy Mountain

In the Big Rock Candy Mountain,
The jails are made of tin.
You can slip right out again,
As soon as they put you in.
There ain't no short-handled shovels,
No axes, saws nor picks,
I'm bound to stay
Where you sleep all day,
Where they hung the jerk
That invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountain.

You were right the first time.   This isn't a pitchers' duel,  this is more like what a gentleman's agreement to take it easy on the starters and the pens would look like.

Not even Florimon makes that play. That was great.

Pedro could have kept playing for me, he could really pick em

Watching him bat was like watching an otter play the French horn.

Is it anti-Canada of me to think that Mike Pelfrey looks and plays baseball like a big wuss because he's from Canada?

Yes, unless Ohio seceded and joined Canada

Yes,  and why are you saying that like it's a bad thing?

I was hoping Santana got on again, I poured a new driveway during the last at bat, and I need to float it once more.
