Twins call up Meyer

I couldn't disagree with you more. Just look at the comments that May and Meyer have made recently.

And yes, they have been yanking May's chain since late last June on exactly what his role is with this team.

And I'm sorry, but if the M & M boys aren't on the short list as future long-term starters on this team, and agreed upon by everyone in the braintrust, then:

"what we have here is a failure to communicate."

Preach it!

If they keep Milone to only twice through the lineup then Meyer should be able to piggyback and get a couple innings while having a bailout if needed. Not a terrible way to get his feet wet.

Has Milone lasted twice through the lineup yet this season?

Nah, Milone is throwing a perfect game tonight to keep his rotation spot,

and also earn a one year PGA tour exemption.

I agree, but weren't most Twins fans, myself included, cheering for Nolasco to fail miserably so Berrios would be up quicker?? Sometimes for the betterment of the team you need players to fail so superior talent that's being held down by a cheap organization are forced to emerge.

Cheering for Nolasco to fail is pretty shortsighted. His success thus far offers an excellent chance to move him before the deadline- coupled  with a small chance for something reasonable in return.

Except Murphy is not an OF........he's an old former corner OF. But, I get your point. I don't agree with the plans at all right now, this is all because they didn't have a plan for what to do if they won Park....none of this is an issue if Sano is at 3B or DH.

Well, Buxton and Rosario not hitting is the issue.  Park/Sano/Plouffe are not really an issue.  Those three have (SSS) OPS+ of 136, 117, 141.  I'm sure that's a problem the Twins would love to have all year.

Do you have faith the FO would move him if he was successful though?? They had the perfect opportunity to do that when Pelfrey showed glimpses, but held onto him..

Yes, if the Nolasco of 2013, i believe, shows up, then great.

Well, I'm just happy that he's coming up. This guy has shown HOF-caliber Pitch Face at every level so far.

Well-played, sir. Now if only Meyer can just make a small personality adjustment commensurate with that Game Face.

Fair, but I think you know I was referring to the bottleneck.......which would be real if Buxton and Rosario and Arcia were hitting.

Letting Milone start tonight, with Meyer available to pitch multiple innings in relief, makes some sense to me.  There is next to no bullpen tonight, if you start Meyer and he implodes in the second inning, you've got big problems.

You'd have Milone available in relief.

Sadly, no.

Personally, I have a lot more faith in Milone giving me five than Meyer.

I'm not sure what comments May has made - although I know is ST he said he wanted to start followed by the usual "do whatever is best for the team" BS.  I did read Meyer's comments about wanting to stay in the bullpen.

But I don't think going from the pen to the rotation (or vice versa) affects the pitcher if it is communicated correctly.  Obviously, Gardy did a pretty good job of making sure Liriano and Santana understand their roles and they were pretty good in both.  If Molitor says to Meyer "we're using you in the pen for now but we hope you get 15 starts this season" I think it's good.  If pitchers are getting yo-yo'd back and forth without always understanding what is happening (Kevin Gausman in Balt as an example) that could be a bad thing.  But generally, I don't think it affects the pitcher.

Well, not sure about this. Why not bring Taylor Rogers back if you need a bullpen arm.

Of course, have to wait and see if Duffy goes on the DL in the major leagues or returns to Rochester, and then we get to see...Murphy!

And here's hoping Danny Santana found his swing!

May and Jepsen pitched 1 inning yesterday, their only innings all weekend.

Abad 2 innings, his only work all weekend

Fien, 1 inning yesterday, 1 on Friday

O'Rourke is really the only one I can see for sure not available tonight, he could easily have been sent down today. Instead they are rolling with a TWO man bench tonight

That's fine.  But you implied there was a different group of pitchers available if Milone starts over Meyer.  That is not the case.

Rogers isn't eligible to be recalled again for ~3 more days, unless someone went on the DL (although it sounds like we could do that for Duffey).

SO, do I have this correct:  for tonight's game, the Twins will feature a 14 man pitching staff and 11 position players?

Polanco down, Duffy up.  12 players and 13 pitchers.  Buxton and Kepler down, Meyer up and Santana activated.  11 and 14.

I guess that explains why Molly didn't PH for Suzuki late in tonight's game.

You got that right!!!

Now let's see.... who is the winner who picked April 25 for the first day of the 14-man pitching staff???

Sure, Ryan moved vets all the time.  Pelfrey didn't really have any demand at the trading deadline (and the Twins kind of needed him).  But I think most teams are going to want more than 4 good starts before they jump on his contract.  He was bad for two years and has two more years on his contract (I believe).  He's not going to be in high demand.

I thought Duffey got sent to the DL.  Did I miss something?

Is this Gardy's influence on the front office already?

I am in love with that last line.....and yes, I think it means an actual MLB team is going with pretty much no bench at all.....none.

Haven't seen that, and if they did, they've got a 24 man roster.

Molitor will be a player/coach

Per LaVelle:

Meyer up; Santana activated from DL.

Kepler and Buxton to AAA.

I'm glad the young guys will now get a shot at playing every day, including (particularly) Arcia.

I also hope that with Santana as the 4th OF, who is capable but not excellent on defense, Sano no longer is pulled in the 8th.

Now the hard part: get the most expendable/expensive/redundant players to play at or above their skill levels until July so they can be traded to clear room for the rest of the youngsters.

You have more confidence in Molitor's restraint in playing DanSan than I do.....
