I think you misunderstood the joke.  

 

I was mocking a "blog" written by Perkins wife where she said in her own words, anyone who is mad that he blew saves is just jealous because he is doing something all of you could only dream of.  

 

Also, they flaunted the Porsche all over social media, around the same time as that blog, and his awful 2nd half.

Why are we assuming this is not what happened? Just because they announced the move this morning doesn't mean that's when they reached the decision.

Attacking a players motives and his character when you don't really know anything about what's going on in the background makes you as bad as what you are complaining about, imo.

 

This isn't pointing a finger at anyone in particular just at the general tone.

As Tony LaRussa would say, the closer is the only guy called on the carpet because he "blows a save". Other batters miss pitches. Fielders make errors. But most every game a closer enters is on-the-line and he either gets the outs or doesn't, and he gets a BIG CHECK MARK when he doesn't.

There is any excuse for tweeting vile, over the top things @ pro athletes, or especially their significant others.  

 

That being said, her post was about how much money he makes, and how the criticism he receives is undeserved because none of us are perfect.  It is certainly true that none of us are perfect, when I screw up at work, no one tweets about it, talks about it on radio, etc.... but I also don't make anywhere near the amount of money she was all too happy to point out on multiple occasion he makes.  

 

If a baseball player doesn't want to be criticized, he doesn't have to play baseball...

The most worthless asset is a good closet on a bad team. The Twins had two years of All Star level performance from Perkons with no substantial impact on W-L record and did nothing. Look how the Phillies turned Ken Giles into 4 exciting prospects. It's just another example of the reactionary, non-visionary FO.

I do agree, and have been preaching for a few years now.....but that time is past. but, add it to the long list of moves I didn't like from my favorite team.

So I won't hear DickBert tell me Rogers is in uniform tonight, but isn't likely available because the Twins like to give a player a day or two to get acclimated before using them in a game, right?

 

I'm sorry Seth, but waiting until today to bring him to Minneapolis is penny wise and pound foolish, IMO.  Use the off day to best position the team to suffer the least possible damage.  

 

It's not a huge deal.  A "paper cut" if you will.  But death from a thousand paper cuts is still death.  At least avoid the self inflicted ones.

Seth, as an experienced writer for this team, you know Perkins' history of getting shelled, then bringing up an injury.  Gardy specifically called him out a number of times.  Several local writers and media members connected to this team have questioned Perkins conditioning and off-field habits.  We're not all as in the loop as you are, so these open criticisms are what we have to go on.  And over time, they should necessarily require a second look.  Fool me once, shame on you, fool me again... and maybe there's a real wolf this time, and some poor kid gets eaten, and then I can't wear my three-wolves-howling-at-the-moon t-shirt in good taste anymore.  Point is, Perkins has wore through his benefit of the doubt period when it comes to getting shelled then reporting an injury that will probably require nothing more than rest and strengthening which he should have been doing all off season...

As long as questioning Perkins work ethic and timing in reporting injury is taboo, then I might as well admit that I have questioned what he did on  one of those rehab stints back when that allowed him to come back to the pen and throw 97 and get a big contract.  If it's legit, I hope he does it again.  Now that sort of question might not be fair.  But the injury reporting is a pattern.

No, what makes him hard to cheer for is the end of last year when he's pitching terribly he's whining about his role.  It bothers me to read quotes from him in response to his velocity that basically read as "the light switch will flip, you guys are idiots for even being worried" and then he makes all of one appearance before hitting the DL after blowing a save.  And of course, an unreported or badly handled injury magically comes up again.

 

Perkins seems to have an accountability problem, something you don't see when you are lights out for three years but as soon as the going gets tough the "Crocodile Tears" version comes roaring back.

Closers also get paid like 3 times more than relievers who do basically the same job.  Goalies also get credited with wins regardless of how well they played individually.  I also don't follow much soccer outside of World Cup, but as my memory serves me, the guys taking the penalty shots and missing are much more likely to be accused of blowing a game than a goal keeper.

Unti he can throw many consecutive fastballs at 94+ and feel good, he probably shouldn't be put into a close ballgame. Who knows when that will be. I'm sure the Twins will say all the right things and claim he is still the closer. It's sad, because when he was on, he was lights out and you could bank on it.

Yeah, I think you said what I'm trying to say better than I'm saying it...or something.  But what bugs me is that we keep going down the same road, with the same excuses, the same bristly responses, and the same over-confidence issues.  

 

I want Glen Perkins healthy and helping this team and it sometimes seems like the greatest enemy of that is Glen Perkins himself.

More importantly, a GM that understands he needs something called insurance.  Not Fernando Abad, or Buddy Boshers.  Or Casey Fien for that matter.
