Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I wanted to start a thread that will include minor league signings. They could come in 3+ forms: 1.) Twins sign a player to a minor league contract, with or without a spring training invite.2.) Twins re-sign one of their own minor league free agents.3.) A former Twins player signs a minor league deal with another club... Here is a starting point. Feel free to update this thread when you see any of the above. Twins Sign Players: Dan Runzler Twins Re-sign Players: Reynaldo RodriguezJairo RodriguezCarlos Paulino Twins lose players: Eric Fryer - St. Louis CardinalsMichael Bowden - Doosan Bears (KBO)
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 19, 2015 Author Posted November 19, 2015 Per Mike Berardino, Shane Robinson has signed a minor league deal with Cleveland, with spring training invite.

Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 The Twins re-signed Marcus Knecht as well
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 The Twins have re-signed CF Shannon Wilkerson (formerly of Chattanooga)Former Twin OF Danny Ortiz has signed with the Pirates, and RHP Adrian Salcedo with the Dodgers
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Maybe Ortiz will finally get his shot.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Maybe Ortiz will finally get his shot. Doubt it with McCutchen, Marte & Polanco as the starters in the majors and Jaff Decker, Andrew Lambo & Keon Broxton & even Willy Garcia ahead of him as prospects in the Pirates' depth charts. They are much more loaded at OF than the Twins are, for sure...
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Dammit, jokin. There goes our starting CF. I never said Shane was going to be starting in CF, most likely Rosario.... but don't worry, there're plenty more scrap heapers Terry will find available in either FA or the minors for that 4th OF spot.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Of course, many minor league free agent signings don't pan out come the end of spring training (prospects vs. AAAA guys in the pecking order). But at some point, the Twins have to do a better job trading their minor (and major) league chips before they just...walk away and sign elsewhere.

Comments like this makes one think these minor league free agents ever actually had trade value. I don't see it.

(just a guy)It is the normal MLB "circle of life".

Maybe. But I wonder if the Twins could have gotten someone useful along with Murphy had they included Zach Jones (he of the 10 SO/9 in AA) along with Hicks.

But I wonder if the Twins could have gotten someone useful along with Murphy had they included Zach Jones (he of the 10 SO/9 in AA) along with Hicks.Zach Jones himself is "someone useful" and if he isn't lost in rule5, he will remain in the Twins organization.
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Zach Jones himself is "someone useful" and if he isn't lost in rule5, he will remain in the Twins organization. I agree, but I rather expect him to be taken by someone.Maybe not. Maybe I'm very wrong. We'll soon learn.

old nurse Verified Member Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 The question for Jones is will he stick on a major league roster, will they trade something of vaalue to keep him
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 28, 2015 Author Posted November 28, 2015 The irony is this thread has nothing to do with Zack Jones or the Rule 5 or anything of the like and yet, he's now been the topic of the last 4-5 comments. I like Zack Jones. Good kid. Big arm... But let's keep the conversation in this section to minor league signings, please.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 Via Twitter, RHP DJ Johnson has signed with the Miami Marlins: I'm excited to say that I'll be continuing my career with the #MiamiMarlins. A big thank you to the #Twins for the opportunities. #GoMarlins
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted November 30, 2015 Author Posted November 30, 2015 Rochester announced that the Twins have signed the following players to minor league contracts: OF Joe BensonC Juan CentenoLHP Aaron Thompson Thompson is currently playing in Australia. He was on the opening day roster last year. Joe Benson comes back and could compete for a spot in Rochester (or the 5th OF spot). Centeno has played 24 games in the big leagues over the last 3 years. He hit .048 last year for the Brewers (1-21 with a double).
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Glad to see Benson back.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Terry Ryan always had good thoughts on Joe Benson. He showed the tools, just don't really know what happened. Aaron Thompson did have a few moments on the MLB roster, so he would give us some depth. Of course, would rather see "real" prospects move up from Chattanooga.

Joe Benson is probably one of the most competitive ballplayers I've ever seen or met. He really struggled with failure which, of course, is what 70% of baseball is about. He was elite defensively, but struggled at times with the bat, at least finding consistency. But he is a hard, hard worker and still just 27. It will be interesting to see what kind of opportunity he gets this spring.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I'll say what I said before.....Benson needs meditation and other such type things.
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Rochester announced that the Twins have signed the following players to minor league contracts: OF Joe Benson I'm surprised that Shane wasn't the first responder to this news!
Homer Hanky Verified Member Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I am glad to see Benson back... Good signing TR
Hrbowski Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Thompson makes sense, and I am excited to see Benson, but I am patting myself on the back over the Ceteno signing, because I named him in another thread as one of five catchers the Twins should pursue this offseason.
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Bit of trivia re: Joe Benson: He was put off waivers to make room for PJ Walters.Good to see him back. I hope he has a chance to make the team.
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted December 1, 2015 Posted December 1, 2015 Joe Benson is back in da house!!!!
