Tulowitzki Traded To The Blue Jays

Looks like we're settling back into the pack now.  It's been a fun, unexpected year, regardless.  I think we'll be set up nicely for next year.  We've got our prospects and hopefully will sign some free agents to fill some holes.  I didn't expect this year, so I'm happy.  I know about 1990 to 1991 turnaround, but you can't expect to go through the hell we went through with the Gardenhire regime and get into the playoffs in one year.  It's a process and I'm optimistic.

I would snap Reyes up instantly as a salary dump.  He instantly becomes the best option at leadoff and fills a big hole (a Santana/Escobar sized one) on defense.  Send 1-2 15-25th ranked prospects.  Or maybe we could send Nolasco to offset the salaries 22M vs 12M and a little better prospect(s) 10-15th ranked.

Twins could have matched the pitchers - Berrios and May - but I'm not sure how the Reyes part of the equation works out with the Twins. I'm sure the Rockies would rather of not picked up a player with that contract.

The story from ESPN is this is the Jays final push and the Rockies side is the move is a setup to trade for starting pitchers they desperately need.

I'm sure they would love to not pay 22M to Reyes.  I could see them dumping him for 'low' ranking prospects (like Gonsalves, Minier or Hu).  It isn't like we are talking about Garver or DHicks.

 

I think they are interested in Nolasco the same way that they were 'interested' in Reyes.  He is owed less money than the player they traded and they get prospects. 

 

Perhaps I haven't gauged the Reyes trade value market correctly though but I don't think he has any value to the Rockies and they will do everything they can to move him in the next 4 days.

UGH... I wanted Tulo on this squad... Even if there was a 0.1% chance I feel we could have outbid the Jays on this deal.

So the Jays get the guy they should have had originally instead of Romero.

 

Nice upgrade, helps them score even more runs and prevent a few as well, although Tulo is about league average this year in runs saved, still better than Reyes 2nd worst though.

 

Latroy will help a bit I guess but that starting rotation and pen are still a disaster, unless that improves I still think the Jays end up missing out.

The three minor leaguers were #3, #5, and #29 for the Blue Jays according to mlb.com's preseason rankings. Jeff Hoffman was the #69 prospect overall. I'd like to see the new update to see where these guys rank, whenever that's going to happen.

This trade doesn't address a need for Toronto at all. They already had a premier offense. They've added a few extra runs, more than likely, but I don't see this helping them very far towards their goal.

While I think this is a great move by Toronto for obvious reasons, I worry Tulowitzki will decline more quickly than necessary by playing 81 games on turf.

 

It's the right move because Toronto absolutely hosed the Rockies but it's not the optimal result for Tulo.
