Call up Arcia?

I tend to disagree with you most of the time Dave ..........but i think this makes alot of sense, as if we dont have good playing time for Arcia, might has well have him get his reps in at AAA , wait for an injury or poor performance..............we are playing well right now, dont rock the boat.

Isn't he also only like 23? Having him spend the year in the minors wouldn't be the end of the world IMO.

The Twins have played 12 games in July. In 33% of those games, either one or both of Santana and Escobar played in the outfield.

 

If the Twins want to play Arcia, there's room on the roster to make that happen. He won't play every day but he can get a lot of PAs.

I used to agree with this before Santana started to show some life. I'm not sure I would bounce anyone off the 25 man for Arcia at this moment. Arcia is better than Robinson obviously, but they play quite different roles, and I'm OK keeping Robinson as a defensive guy and pinch runner.

The clearest path for Arcia in the majors is by taking over for Hunter. Which means 2016 is much more likely to be the case (unless there is injury or the Twins trade Hunter)

Lefties absolutely OWN Arcia, so I am not sure you want Arcia taking those at bats anyways. I wouldn't be opposed to a straight Hunter and Arcia platoon in RF, but that isn't going to happen.

Hopefully Arcia is playing left AND right at AAA so he can take over for Hunter in 2016. And hopefully they're emphasizing defense, making him realize that playing good defense will get you major league at bats, that playing time is not all about swinging the bat. 

 

A hot swinging Arcia at AAA is a good problem to have, he's there in case of an injury, he's good trade bait, he's perfecting his skills for 2016, and if nothing else he'll be a good call-up and boost to the Twins in Sept. 

 

Should he replace Robinson on the Twins roster?? Not if he doesn't play at least 4 games a week, he's better off getting experience in Rochester.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that there is virtually zero chance that Plouffe is traded in the middle of a tight pennant race:

 

1) Too disruptive to the team, both on the field and in the clubhouse

2) Too unlikely to get enough in return on trade

3) Too unlikely that highly slump-prone Arcia can be relied on for consistent production

 

OTOH, Sano to OF on a part-time basis is a distinct possibility.

In his first cup of coffee up here, Rosario has essentialy the same OPS that Arcia has put up in his two years (.741 vs. .728).  Rosario's UZR on fangraphs has a +6 runs per 150 games, compared to a rate Arcia has historically put up in the -14 range.  My eye test concludes the gap between the two would be wider.

 

Having one extra guy as we look out is okay, given all the scenarios in which he can come up:

 

Mauer is hurt

Plouffe is hurt

Sano is hurt

Rosario is hurt

Hunter is hurt

Move Sano to OF

Trade Plouffe

Someone struggles

I think you keep him for this season, in the off season once you have more roster clarity then you can look into it again.

 

That being said I would trade him or most players if the price was right, I just don't see someone giving good value while his value is so low currently.

Yes, it's just 65 PAs for Arcia, but not completely irrelevant like Pelf.  

 

More curious numbers, the first two of which on this list have made many Twins fans downright giddy, of late.
