True, he wasn't going north with the team this year, but I thought maybe they'd keep him in the big league camp a little longer. Platoon and MrEnthusiasm 2

ExpectMorePayLess Verified Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Does anyone know which groups "Each" will be working with in minor league camp? Eample: (1) Now that Buxton and Kepler are sent down to minor league camp, does that affect who bumps down from group 1 to group 2 (as Seth outlined in article) ?

They will probably got to the New Britain Chattanooga Group, which is likely group 1. Not much bumping yet. That will start when the extra 27 players in the Twins' MLB camp (that is the Rochester roster plus) start to getting cut... The players who got cut here are AA and high A Edited March 15, 2015 by Thrylos

Still, thought he'd make it to the next cut. HitInAPinch and gbg 2

Still, thought he'd make it to the next cut. The thing is that Berrios will not make the Twins. There is a pretty sizable battle for the 5 rotation spot and they are remaking the bullpen. It is better to give innings to players who have a change to make it, so they can evaluate them against MLB hitters, than to Berrios. He will be better off learning to throw to the catchers he will throw in AA as well... brvama, HitInAPinch and James 3

Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Sano was cut too. That, I don't understand.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Sano too? Well TR said Sano would probably be in the next round of cuts. He needs playing time too and will get more innings down in camp. The sooner he shakes the rust, the better.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Sano was cut too. That, I don't understand.Ditto. I thought he'd be around for awhile longer.
teekz Verified Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 Isn't Sano on the 40 man? If he gets injured and ends on the DL he starts getting service time. gil4, stringer bell, maxisagod and 1 other 4
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 At least that aren't giving false hope to fans that these guys might be up soon. jokin 1

Hopefully we see him up before September. (I think he only had two - vs. Pirates and Cards)
Thrylos Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 So it looks like 18 were cut today (between the announced and unannounced cuts,) leaving the roster at 43, with 18 more to go, 9 pitchers and 9 position players. Pretty symmetric. Trying to keep track here.
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Isn't Sano on the 40 man? If he gets injured and ends on the DL he starts getting service time. Correct. The Twins have not formally announced Sano being sent down, though there are reports that he has... There's timing and things like that (that are beyond my understanding). There are as many as 5 guys that have already been told that they will be sent down. That may officially be announced tomorrow, but it could wait until Tuesday as the Twins have a complete off day tomorrow. BK432 1
HitInAPinch Verified Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 The last stats I saw on Sano, his 2 HR's were his only hits in 10 AB's. He also struck out twice. Upside, he walked 3 times. He needs to shake off some rust and get a better handle on breaking balls.I haven't read any stories on this throwing, so I'm assuming the elbow is OK.

Problem is that he is not better now. Will he? Maybe (I don't think that he will be better than Meyer). Pelfrey and Milone have been lights out this Spring. Berrios not so. And they got to see Meyer and May who are more ready. Stauffer is not part of that equation. Berrios is in Buxton's shoes, pretty much. 2016 or 2017.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 These cuts basically bring my "minimal interest" level in watching ST ball down to a healthy "no friggin way am I wasting my time on that" PseudoSABR 1

GMinTraining Verified Member Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) I heard they had inter squad games (minor leaguer) today. Did any of the guys who were cut play in those minor league games. Did anyone see them play if they did play? Edited March 16, 2015 by GMinTraining

That said, my first thought, and admittedly not my most rational one was what an odd coincidence! The first cuts of camp, included the three players who have drawn the most interest, speculation, and drooling in the last several years of mediocre baseball. A conspiracy theorist would ask, was there a message here to the public? Of course since I am not a conspiracy theorist, I must leave that to others to contemplate!
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 with tongue only slight planted in cheek, yes, you would not want to confuse the issue with a pitcher who was better than the ones in question! Even if Berrios is better than Pelfrey or Milone, he's not getting the nod before Meyer or May (and it's hard to argue that he's better than either in March of 2015).
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Why is Oliveros getting cut so soon? This team's already set on only having one guy in the pen who can hit 95? The way they've drafted lately makes it seem like they understand the theory that strikeouts in the pen are useful. They don't seem to practice that theory though. Platoon 1
