  1. As long as the Twins preach swing from the heels, home run or nothing type of swings, why bother drafting good hitters with high draft picks. You can get the slugger only type, in the second or third rounds.
  2. I'd swap Kepler for Wallner or Larnach, then I'd swap Gallo for the other. Our hitting would improve.
  3. I expect the Twins to win 1 game at most. They barely made it out of Detroit, Atlanta is an entirely different kind of team.
  4. Hopefully the second half of the season will see more of the young players come up from 3A. Kirilloff & Lewis should see both righties and lefties, enough of this crapping around with pinch hitting for them.
  5. My response now is the same as Dec 2022. Don't want, don't need him, get rid of him as soon as possible. His accidental fast start is long gone and to late to trade him now.
  6. Can't argue too much with the rankings. What does the development list entail. Specialized coaching? If so, I would think every minor leaguer should spend time each month on the development list. Spend 4 hours a day in a game or 6-8 hours a day working on a weakness. For instance Miller has got shortstop down pretty good, but he needs to work a lot on his hitting. At over 190 lbs he should be able to do a lot more. If he is working with a hitting coach for 200 at bats a day 3-4 times a week, you would think he could make faster improvements then 3-4 a at bats 5 times a week. Granted he needs live game reps, but obviously he needs hitting work more.
  7. IF Maeda is injured in the next 30 days, we will need someone to fill the 5th spot in the rotation. Varland needs to work on some things at 3A and I wouldn't want him to be brought back early in the process. No other starter at 3A is really worth bringing up.
  8. I agree with playing all the players in the prospect category. We never seem to find out if guys can make it or not. Next year we could easily be in the same boat. I might give Keirsey some play in center if Taylor gets traded, although if healthy I would like to see Martin play some center field.
  9. I think the best trade chips might be Taylor, Farmer, Solano & Gray. Maybe Maeda would do enough to be tradable. I like to trade Kepler, Pagan and Gallo, but what would you get? The same for Polanco. is Gordon going to be around next year or will he even play before August? I'm curious about trading Vasguez.
  10. The benefit of Maeda might be to give Varland 3-4 starts in 3A to fix his homer pitch tendencies. Maeda might not be ready, or able to pitch at the major league level yet, but I don't think they have anybody in the minors right now who looks to be ready to step in. I hope they don't give anything up for a rental, that we can get from Maeda.
  11. If he has no more baseball career left after this year, he is not giving up this contract. Would you? Would anybody? He may have to go on the 4200 day injured list. Someday, after the Kansas City Royals have past us by, and you look into the bottom of your empty beer glass, you can say"Do you remember Buxton?"
  12. Unfortunately right now we have 2 boat anchors in the middle of the lineup. Maybe the real problem is the lineup is made more on how much someone is paid rather than what they are doing. Correa and Buxton are not going anywhere and no one would take them in a trade anyway. If they were playing healthy and hitting, we wouldn't be trading them to begin with. In the future (I hope) we may have better hitters available and we can move them down lower in the lineup. They'll be here until they retire.
  13. This Twins team isn't on the way to the World Series. Maybe in first place but haven't won more than they've lost and now it's looking like the starters are suffering the strain of having to pitch shutouts to get close to winning. I easily think of 6-7 players I'd prefer to dump or trade if I could find someone to trade for them. We keep on pushing off until next year the incorporation of young guys in the lineup and keep on finding ourselves in the same position. I expect there to be a lot of changes shortly after the allstar break.
  14. 1. I am glad that we have enough young talented prospects that the issue's of where to play them is worth arguing about. 2. I wish we had enough talented, healthy veterans that the issue's of where to play the prospects was a problem. The problems with our veterans seems to be where and when to move them. 3. Every year I hope we have issue's of too much talent trying to force their way unto the roster.
  15. I think long term Martin plays center field for the Twins. He has the speed and athleticism to play the position. He may not be as good as Buxton at his best, but if he can stay healthy he could easily see more time at the position. He's a good on base hitter with plenty of stolen base potential. See Martin and Julian as the top 2 hitters followed by Lewis, then Kirilloff batting forth could produce a lot of runs. Something desperately short of this year.
  16. I am stuck on trying to remember the great outfield rookies that came up that Kepler has been challenge to keep his job over. His position on your list is based on longevity and lack of system development, i.e. the Twins simply have had no one come up from the minors to run him off. More a statement of how bad they have been then how good he is.
  17. He probably wouldn't pitch any until Aug/Sept of 2024 at the earliest. We have 5 plus Maeda right now. Of the guys in the system who could we bring up when another injury appears. The 6-8 spots for starters look pretty weak right now. When Maeda is back, spot #6 is not so bad. But what if Maeda goes down again next month. They had set rotation plans for a fill in start every 3-4 weeks to give the regulars in the rotation a break, but that's fallen by the wayside. I think we may need to sign a pitcher who can start next year with the money we would be gambling on Mahle with. Otherwise if both Grey and Maeda leave, then we will just be short 2 starters for next year.
  18. Its good seeing Raya, ERod, and Prielopp getting on the field. We are hoping on these players in the next few years.
  19. The first question to answer, is sliding in under the tape at the end of the season enough, if only to lose all games in one playoff series? I personally don't think so. If they somehow hold off the Guardians and Sox, and win but 82 games , should we be thrilled. I don't think so. Again I think this a tryout for a future season. What can we get for Kepler, Gordon, Gray, Maeda, Farmer, Gallo, Polanco, Solano, Taylor & Garlic. A future number 2 or 3 starter? A future catcher and centerfielder? I'd start shopping now, soon the middle of June and make several trades by July 31. I don't think this team gets too far with what it has in any event., but it does have some tradeable pieces that might help us get over the hump next year .
  20. With the Twins lack of hitting, and they show no signs of changing that dynamic, they will be fading by the all star break. More fading then they are doing now. I think they have enough talent on the roster, but not enough productive talent. I have been watching that lead over the Sox fade for a few weeks and the Twins just don't seem strong enough to turn the ship around. I think they Sox can easily run away (win by 2 games or more) the division. I agree I don't think are strong enough to win a playoff series even if they actually win a playoff game. But do they become sellers by the end of July?
  21. Can we sign a "Batting" tee?
  22. The problem with blaming the coaches, is the guys that can't hit, won't change and haven't changes for the last 3-4 hitting coaches they've played for. Gallo, has hit the same way for 3-4 teams, all with different coaches. He is what he is. Kepler has had 1 good year and a decent year in 8 seasons. He is not a hitter to count on. So don't. Other teams wouldn't. DFA him. Replace him for guys with minor league options. Buxton, if he is not playing center, shouldn't be in the lineup. Too hurt to play, then too hurt to play. Price shouldn't guarantee an everyday spot. The team can't cover him. Lastly and maybe leastly, this team just doesn't have enough GOOD hitters. We send down the guys with options, who hit like our veterans. Not we have mostly veterans who can't hit. Bench everyone who strikes out 3 times a week. Can we institute a 60 man roster?
  23. I expect Lewis to be part of the future. This year I think it would be good for him to only play third. Let him learn the position at the major league level. he has made some plays(or not made the plays) that I think he will make with more experience at third. Let him grow into it. He needs to develop as a major league hitter. With only 65 at bats in the majors and only about 220 at bats since 2019 he will need a lot of work. Hopefully he won't slip so far as to need another trip to 3A. Keep him out of the outfield. He may be really good there, but the wall is looming and I prefer to keep him healthy and in the lineup regularly. We have more guys coming in the next 2 years that can fill center, if Buxton can't. Moving him around the infield and outfield does not settle a position for him or the team.
  24. I was expecting that the contract would turn out for Vasquez to catch 60% this year, there be a 50/50 split next year and Jeffers catching 60% in 2025. If Vasquez is really making that much of a difference in the pitching staff, then perhaps he can help coach Jeffers up on the defensive end. Jeffers has thrown out 35% of attempted base stealers with only 2 errors so far this year. I always expected Jeffers to be a good hitting catcher and a better defensive catcher than given credit for. I wouldn't be too surprised to see him make the allstar team in the next couple of years. Though not this year.
