  1. Get in the wayback machine. Rod Carew was not considered a good defender. He had double digit errors every year while a regular at second base. About 1973 or 74 he had 30+ errors at second. The next year they started moving him to first base. You wouldn't move him because he was the best hitter in the league. There are plenty of exercises to improve feet and hands, most involve martial arts. If Julian is going to be the full time second baseman for multiple years, then I think its best to get him as flexible as possible for the position. He doesn't remind me of Rod Carew, more like Jeff Kent.
  2. I think the Twins win the division no matter their Jekyll and Hyde routine. This should(?) be a very good period to get their up and coming core plenty of playoff experience and season end playing experience, which hopefully will do them good going forward. Getting the kids playing experience is more vital then seeing if the veterans want to contribute and/or trade for new veterans. I think it would be good to bring in whatever kids may be part of this roster next year and give them some innings down the stretch.
  3. I don't see resigning them for next year, unless its some kind of sign and trade thing. They either held back or driven back the team too much the last couple of years. I.E. worn out the welcome no matter what they do.
  4. I think both Maeda and Mahli are more likely options than Gray. I agree with others who think he will leave. Maeda is showing that spinning the ball can have just as big an impact as throwing harder. I think that Balazovic, SWR & Varland could learn a lot from him. Or else send them all with Ryan to his off season pitching program at Driveline.
  5. I think Martin can be the Twins starting center fielder next year. Seem like the Twins finally realized not everyone should or can hit 30 homers. The best teams in baseball figured that out and the Twins are just late for to the party. Martin will be a high on base player with 30-40 stolen base ability. He can cover center field and was obviously never a short stop. It'll be fun to see him hit leadoff and Julian bat second. with Lewis, Kirilloff, Lee, Wallner, and Jeffers in the lineup. With Correa further down unless he starts hitting again. No telling about Buxton or Larnach.
  6. Tampa Bay has 2 left handed starters. Boston has 2 left handed starters, Toronto has 1 left handed starter. Houston has 1 left handed starter. And Seattle has 0 lefthanded starters. I'd say are best chance is against Seattle. As long as its not Detroit we might scrape out a win.
  7. I think part of Larnach's problem was not having enough AB's at 3A. He only had 87 before this year. He has had steady AB's the last 2 months and his hitting has suddenly rocketed to 276/392/918 in 156 AB's this year. In July he hit 300 in 3A and 478 this month. Total AB's last year were 206 and so far this year he has 318 between 3A and the Twins. Martin finally got his timing down since the middle of July. He is hitting 400 with a 516 OBP. I think he can play center field.
  8. I highly suspect he has had his knees, hips, ankles, feet and any other lower body part that could be part of the problem thoroughly examined by multiple high level professionals. That's why he is not playing the field. They probably told him long ago not to be playing. period.
  9. Bo Jackson and A Rod had hip replacement surgeries. neither were the same afterword but they did play. I am not aware of someone with knee replacement still playing following surgery. However it has been over a year now since he went out with knee problems and I think he had surgery last August. It hasn't healed in the year since, maybe it won't or they definitely need to do something more drastic.
  10. Before jumping on the keep Kepler bandwagon, what happens if they put Buxton back in the outfield next year(which everyone is hoping for) but it's not center field. He can't maintain his health in center and never has. He can't even do it from the bench. If Buxton play's left or right do you keep Kepler? Do you then trade both Larnach and Wallner?
  11. Keep filling the pipeline. Ricardo Oliver is having a good season at Ft Myers. 21 yo catcher/left fielder, He is another player with the ability to draw walks. I am glad that the Twins system has more and more players with good strike zone control. I wonder if that is because of the electronic ball and strike zone vs human umps with poor strike zone judgement.
  12. If he can play first base as well and hit at all then he could replace Gallo. Still I would prefer Prato gets a shot as a corner right hand bat.
  13. I still think Martin is the future center fielder for this team. Prato, a right handed hitting corner outfielder. Can't think of any team looking for one.
  14. Gallo had a multi hit game last on June 27 and only 4 times this year. He has had 37 multi strikeout games. Not a great stat line. Maeda has pitched well. Looks like he is ready for an early position in the playoff rotation. Hopefully the other starters get back to early season performances. Most of 2 months left in the season, but Jeffers looks like he is having a breakout so far.
  15. I considered the direction of this article before and almost responded like wise to other current articles on not acquiring relief pitchers. If they have over stretched the available budget for this year and the financing for TV revenue is falling then how does that impact this winters free agent spending and the International free agent market. The list of players let go was listed above. It would have been easier as a front office to sign a couple of players and look like they were doing something then to shrug their shoulders and go oh well. But if the only option was to make trades that cut payroll, who were they going to get? Floro and Luplow plus whatever Keuchel had already agreed to. Unfortunately not enough minor league pitchers were pitching well enough to warrant promotions, although I expect that many were hoping several to step up. I suspect besides the year they are having, that come next winter the Twins would never even have tried to sign Correa or Buxton. Just imagine the team next winter if they cannot add payroll from where they are now.
  16. Looks like another weak hitting occasional homer type. Bet he produces lots of strikeouts too.
  17. He who shall not be named was out tanning himself last night down the first base line. Don't look now but Arizona has a better record than the Twins.
  18. Correa spent all last winter chasing $350mil contracts, not practicing his normal off season routine. I'm not a Correa fan and wish they hadn't signed him or resigned him. But I expect he'll be back to his normal next year. I also expect there is a lot of pressure he has placed on himself to prove he is worth $200mil. Very normal occurances. I would have spent all winter chasing $350mil contract if it was offered to me and I expect most on this site would have too.
  19. I think Polanco's future on the Twins could very well be dictated by how well Lee looks at 3A. They may not bring Lee up this year, but if he plays well enough I expect them to clear a spot for him next spring.. Next year's starting infield at some point will be Kirilloff 1B, Lee 2B, Correa SS, Lewis 3B. Martin can play center field with Buxton maybe playing 50 games in Left field. Julian utility /Dh and Miranda I have no idea where. Wallner in RF.
  20. It would be nice to see him hit the rotation late next year and Priellip in 2025. Although I envision him more as a relief pitcher to start with.
  21. I am fine with none of the Twins prospects being thrown away for a 2 month rental. Let those players stay here get better, some won't. I am actually fine with Gallo being on the roster to playing first base since the Twins are short of qualified first basemen on the roster. I would have preferred they DFA Gallo and bring Williams up to play first base although his July has been almost as bad as his June was good. There are others they could have subtracted without adding anything to the big league roster in those trades, that would have made the team better going forward. The Twins have 6 core veterans everyday players who are supposed to be leading this team, Correa, Buxton, Gallo, Kepler, Vasquez and Polanco. Gallo and Kepler are playing to their career norms and if you look at it, Buxton is close. Polanco has been injured too much to know, but on the other hand it seems as if his off season approach wasn't good enough to get him ready to play. Vasguez and Correa are just no where close. This is the group we need to replace half of to give the 2024 team a better chance. The Twins can and should win the division but of course they might not. But if too many of these key veterans are playing close to their career norms, is there any reason to keep them around into the future? They have not been good enough. I don't want to hear or see one of them stand up at seasons end and say "Its on me, I wasn't playing good enough." We know you're not playing good enough, but fix it now.
  22. Hope he can make it to 3A by mid summer next year. Good luck.
  23. They probably had a gentleman's agreement not to trade Keuchel to a team that he didn't want to go to. And I suspect he only wanted to start, which the Twins don't currently have a place for. Pure speculation.
  24. Even with down numbers, I would like to see ERod get bumped to the next level for September. Hopefully he will have a good August to earn it.
  25. I think the Twins will win the division pretty easily, without about a dozen injuries anyway. Could they have done anything to get better than the other 5 upcoming playoff teams. Highly doubtful. They need 3 starters, possibly 4 if they win the first round of the playoffs. Probably need 5 good relievers for the playoffs and I think they have that. No matter what bat they could have brought in, Buxton, Correa, Kepler or Vasguez were not going to have much of a change in games played. None of those players are doing enough in the lineup to really propel the team. The best hitters are all the young guys, which to me is good news, so any batter traded for is going to knock one of them out of the lineup. Probably the best thing they can do is rotate some guys out of the bullpen for periods of rest and maybe lengthen the rotation to get guys more rest. Or shorten the number of innings a starter throws which would entail more long relievers, which I am in favor of.
