  1. We were reminded again this year that catchers are always a foul ball to the seeds away from major surgery. And of course you have an all time franchise icon who had to switch to first because of too many fouls to the grill. Stand pat at catcher please, depth is only temporary.
  2. The team has done pretty well with Buxton on the field, so I think that makes it harder to evaluate. The dumb extra inning rule exposed an ice cold closer and poor depth behind him. A team with some bad pieces can sometimes not gel. To me its kind of a C grade but maybe he handled things really well behind closed doors with covid, vaccines, etc.
  3. Simmons' presence has moved Polanco to 2B where he fits much better defensively, and his comfort might be part of his great offense.
  4. Miguel Rosas from Miami Marlins. It looks like he has a 2022 team option that kicks in by plate appearances, and anyone can be had from Miami.
  5. I don't know what I don't know with the FO. I hoped they had been aggressive in trying to move a Sano or Kepler for pitching last offseason, but I don't know that they tested the waters and didn't see anything worth pursuing. I also have no idea what kind of edicts if any are given to Rocco and crew on lineups, pitching changes etc. The FO is like a college football coach only approaching their own recruiting classes. I don't love the continued trial of other teams' 40 man refuse, but I assume that's only part of short term planning. They get more patience from me.
  6. I think the Shoemaker leak was encouraged by the Twins to make teams think that the Twins Way is the problem
  7. Good proposals. I hope the returns are generally pitching heavy though, like the Cruz deal.
  8. I think the Donaldson move was a 'go for it' signing, perfect after 2019. I think they could've done more in 2020 and been in better position for 2021 with some creative acquisition of power arms for the pen. Maybe that's the convenient answer for everything, but maybe capitalizing on a Kepler trade market for example, which is an option we're considering now for conversation at least.
  9. If his batting average struggles can be improved by the shift elimination rule change then hang onto him and re-evaluate after
  10. How Kepler, Sano, Polanco finsh and how Buxton and Garver recover. This was the core. Can Polanco sustain his mid-season rebound, can Kepler show his recent streak is a sign that his struggles were from health/Covid, and how do Buxton and Garver look for 7 weeks or so. To me I let those items play out in 2021 before deciding on a complete rebuild.
  11. His manager thought he should face 8-9-1 in the 8th of a 6-0 game, as opposed to the 9th against the middle of the order. Not really a vote of confidence
  12. I agree that a trade should be considered as there appears to be a prospect behind him though there isn't a need to rush Miranda. Sano was a prospect at one point too. Figure out how to keep your prospects from becoming suspects after their first time around otherwise what's the point if young talent can't sustain.
  13. In a whistle blower sense Donaldson could be the Canseco of the foreign substance issue. Not necessarily lovable, and obviously Canseco was self implicating and selling books, but will end up being a critical figures.
  14. Are they ready to sell low, essentially cut bait on a Sano or Kepler for a raw prospect and some salary relief? I can see a few teams being interested and maybe some non-contenders.
  15. I've wondered if the constant train of 4A arms seemingly signed to 'see what they've got' shouldn't be better vetted by scouts. Maybe our scouts are optimistic, maybe the organization is only playing the numbers game and hopes 10% can be coached up.
  16. This spider tack topic needs to play out for awhile. Did this FO never measure Nick Anderson's spin rate but he goes to Tampa and his spin rate is elite? I'm at least curious, the Twins might just be bad and the spider tack topic goes away.
  17. I didn't like trading one of the few who had shown patience at the plate on a team of free swingers. But it was a trade of fringe players so I moved on.
  18. My mind immediately went to the Scott Aldred / Rich Robertson era. Maybe similar to the 97 squad with Radke at the top and everyone else losing 12 games. They had Aggie at the back end though and didn't have to suffer the Colome experience.
  19. Is Buxton really unhappy or do he and his agent need a little leverage against being hurt yet again.
  20. I know it was a tough lefty, but I wanted to see Gordon back out there after his speed clearly affected the game on Saturday. Maybe he gets a bunt hit or draws a walk, even if he gets on by forcing the runner ahead of him he's on base as a threat to steal.
  21. In a rotation of Ober, Happ, Dobnak, you need other guys to be capable of 2 innings stints. I don't know who I'd trust to do 2 innings. I like the Shoemaker idea but feels Spring Training-ish.
  22. I think a mistake was made in not redirecting some batting approaches and I don't know if that means to jettison some players or a different hitting coach. Also to not have a non-Jake Cave CF option for the impending Buxton injury has been an annual oversight. I thought the mistake was anointing Colome closer early on. Having an option to spell Rogers was a solid plan but wasn't utilized as Rogers was throwing 7th innings and Colome started blowing games without any options left and Rogers potentially spent for the next day.
  23. Agree that it doesn't feel like a Tampa type move but could see a trade to Oakland. Then they have a platoon option for Moreland. Twins would have to send cash.
