  1. Deepest team since the world series champs of 1992 or teams of the mid 2000s. That's a stretch. This team is deeper but a lot of it is unproven depth. Three of our starting pitchers are entering the last year of their contract. Two of those with injury problems. Probably all three. We paid a career .199 hitter 11 million for one year. He strikes out at about the same as Sano did. Our offense could be very anemic. Twins don't have much to protect Correa in the lineup. If your an opposing pitcher, why pitch to him when there is much of a reliable hitter behind him? Bullpen is average with some very good pieces. Last year they got burned out from overuse in the first half of the season. I think they have a lot of potential but there is a lot of questions marks all the way around. Everything will have to go just right. And with another projected record payroll I would imagine it's time for the manager and front office to show some positive results or be shown the door.
  2. Your comment that the Twins starting staff in 2022 was somehow plagued by their short term status does ring true. But who put that staff together last year? Our Front Office of course. You knew going in last year that our starting staff was very sub par plus the FO didn't see the need to upgrade the bullpen in 2022. If you are going to only use starters for 5 or even 6 innings you better have a shut down bullpen. Not sure what to expect this year. The bullpen seems average to maybe slightly above average. There is definitely a couple there that shouldn't be on the team. But their "stuff is good" even if the results aren't. Remember many times this FO has said it's about the process and not the results. If their goal is to stick with the plan, win ing be damned, then I'm afraid we are in for another season of disappointment. Why isn't this front office held accountable?
  3. Your article, like Byron Buxton himself, is a complete overstatement. He should hire you as his public relations manager. All these accolades for a player whose only played one full season going on 8 years. How anyone can say how great he is based on such little information and stats is astounding. Buxton has been an enigma of sorts. People like you tell us how great he is yet we don't see enough of him to make such comments. His career stats aren't all that impressive. I really hoped he plays some full seasons so we can see one way or another if he is as good as people say. To me I don't see it except maybe a few weeks out of the year. If he plays a full year and is great as you say he should have an MVP year. I really hope so because then the Twins would be a world series contender. So far the career of Buxton has been a huge disappointment.
  4. I'm predicting around 82-83 wins which may still be good enough to win the division. I'm also predicting they finally won a playoff game but don't advance past the first round. This team looks better on paper but is still cemented in too many ifs. If the starting staff holds up. If the bullpen holds up. If our offense can somehow hold up. If our manager manages well. If the injured players play and if they perform well. I'm cautiously optimistic. Go Twins
  5. Very interesting article. It's hard to know what to believe. Neither the Twins nor Forbes can be taken at face value. I think for the market size the Twins do a good job on payroll. If they were so concerned about " losing money" they wouldn't have paid 200 million guaranteed money for Correa to play shortstop on an otherwise average team.
  6. Of course we should be at least a little concerned. He should start season in the bullpen in mop up roles at first, until he gets his game back in order. If he handled it fine. If not, cut him loose. If he has to be released don't let him just hang on. Remember, he is a free agent at seasons end and he is 35 year old pitcher coming off Tommy John. Doesn't appear to be a long term asset, just saying. It's always so strange this spring training. If a player is having a great spring training and is released they say he's only playing against others in spring training. When a player has a bad spring, especially for veterans, they say it's only spring training. Spring training surely isn't what it used to be.
  7. Excellent article! The bullpen is still a question mark IMO. But it potentially looks like it could be ok. I agree with your assessment of their early season struggles. Everyone seems to poo poo away poor games in April and may because it's early. Don't those games count? Apparently not. The Twins would have had a much better record had Pagan in particular not been so rotten early in the season. I believe his poor pitching in key situations was tied to around 10 losses last year but that's ok because they keep telling us games in April don't matter. The Twins insistence on sticking with Pagan was strange. I hope he bounces back and has a great year, even early when the games don't apparently matter. I think I will give up if I hear twins management, announcers, players and others tell us that it's a marathon not a sprint when they play poorly in some otherwise winnable games. Last time I checked, all teams games in April and May count in the standings. Or did they forget to tell the Twins?
  8. I'm thinking in the 80-85 win range. I agree with a contribute that said as low as 72. I don't think that will happen but it could. I'm more concerned now about the offense. We traded two of our better offensive players since last year and am wondering how to replace their offense. One of them of course the batting championship. They signed Correa to all that money which may work out. He's a very good hitter but who protects him in the lineup? Buxton? Hardly. I mean why pitch to Correa if you don't have a very good hitter batting after him. I'm worried that our offense will struggle like it did much of last year. Starting pitching looks better on paper but questions abound regarding their past injury status. Gallo? The career .199 hitter going to save the team this year? I hope so but it's doubtful. This team could go either way. I'm hoping they take the division. The last two seasons have been a disaster.
  9. Oh boy. I hope you are wrong regarding the injuries but after last year who knows? What has bothered me as much as the injuries is the teams lack of transparency regarding injured players. Why does a day to day injury wind up a month long or more trips on the il and management tells fans very little. What's wrong with being honest with the fans and give factual injury updates? So many things this FOhas done and said over the past few years shows me they have little regard for the fans at all. Same old same old.
  10. Interesting comments from everyone. I'm not smart enough I guess to have any answers. All I know is after cutting the very expensive cable, we went to streaming to watch Twins. We switched 3 times in streaming to try and watch the Twins. Each of the services dropping the Twins due to costs etc. Now I've been unable to watch the Twins at home. This is the third year of this. Twins said they were working on a solution. Yet this is the third year with very limited coverage and nothing was done. All I know is I used to pay my cable or streaming billeach month mostly for local sports. Now I can't, for three seasons. Does anyone really care? I guess not.
  11. No way Maeda falls in a category of 2/$50 mil. Not even close. Whichever way it goes I believe it's his last season with the Twins. Gray is worth keeping but he's already making $12 mil this season. Unless he has a great season I don't see the Twins going much higher than his current salary. The one I'm most worried about is Mahle. Potential is there but he's hurt a lot and hasn't had a good spring thus far. If he could pitch well and stay off the injured list he may be one to invest in. It's also very possible all three of them will be gone and need to be replaced. Draft picks are good but you never know of course if they will ever make it.
  12. I say keep him. I'm still perplexed why they put Santana on waivers. He was picked up by the Mets. They have world series aspirations and saw something in him. Twins have no world series aspirations and may not even make the playoffs. To the Chagrin of most of us I am sure Pagan will stay. They continually say they are more concerned with Pagans process and not his results. But they are stubborn enough to let him come in and blow more games this year. Remember, they love his stuff. I like results. If pagan has the stuff but doesn't get results he isn't much good for the team. Only to the management. Keep Hoffman, dump Pagan and Megill.
  13. Solano should be filling in for AK. That way not so many players need to play out of their position. I'm hoping AK can make it. But if he is injury prone again this year it will be his third year Ina row. Then it's time to cut bait so to speak. We don't want or need or can we afford to give up a roster space for a full time player to play part time. We already have one in Buxton.
  14. Very nice article. I appreciate the updates as it's hard to find detailed info on the injured players. Thanks for the article and please keep us updated!
  15. Interesting and well done article. It seems though that Martins injury effects on the entire roster is way overblown. I feel sorry for the young man but his injury is what it is. It's a potentially, for him especially, a very significant and unfortunate injury. To project it to all sorts of possible ramifications to the roster is really stretching logic to illogical proportions for a player to very unlikely crack the roster. I hope Austin Martin recovers quickly and can return to the field in a fully recovered and healthy manner.
  16. I liked your article even though it turned out to be pretty much just an opinion column. But it was a very interesting read. I too am excited for the start of the season now less than 3 weeks away; even though I'm one of the thousands of fans that still cannot see the team on tv. Anyway, if the team stays relatively injury free and if the players live up to all their hype, it could be an interesting one. It will be fun to see if Baldelli can actually manage a healthy major league team with a record payroll. He may not be on the hot seat this year but on the warm seat especially if we don't see great improvement over the past two seasons of boring and undisciplined baseball. Come on Rocco we are pulling for you.
  17. I think you may be a little high in your estimate. A 16-12 record would be nice. Since the philosophy of the organization has been to downplay games in April, especially when they lose. Remember it's a marathon not a sprint crap we hear early each year. So in thinking twins will finish April 12-16. But I really hope it's 16-12. Go twins
  18. I'm not a Rocco fan but would love to become one. I'd like to see if he can really manage a team instead of spreadsheets managing it for him. Just like it would be fun to see if Buxton can play a full season and produce results. The past couple of years have been bad due largely to underperforming players and injuries. But the Twins play boring, uninspiring and undisciplined baseball. Even before last year's September collapse and teaming first place they weren't that good. Way too many physical and especially mental errors. I expect improvement from Rocco as well. Just win baby.
  19. Interesting article. Well done. Good take on the injuries and how losing certain players who didn't really contribute at all due to long term injuries boosts up that total to second most injured team. I was much more concerned about how many of the younger players proved they weren't ready for MLB. But I am starting to buy some of the hype on the prospects. Some of them appear to have bright futures.
  20. I really don't know what to expect. But I agree that the pitching staff performance is vital to a good season. Our starters need to pitch better and longer. That is if their performance and Baldellis stubborn don't let pitchers face hitters a third time doesn't get in the way. But on paper it looks better than normal. We do have starters with a history of injuries that need to be overcome. We also need a stronger bullpen if our manager is intent of burning them out after the all star break. Not sure about the offense yet. If they are counting on Buxton to play a full season And be productive, good luck with that. If players play up to their abilities and beyond and stay injury free it could be a fun season.
  21. I too prefer reading the articles. But I do find the videos informational and entertaining as well. Keep them up. I'm not a fan of podcasts however. But I realize I'm in the minority there. I always turn to TD for my twins information. Keep up the good work!!
  22. I'm going with last year's opening day starter in Joe Ryan. He's earned it plus we are playing the Royals one of the weaker teams. Ryan was very good against the poor teams and generally bad against the good teams. Everyone talks about the depth of starters for the Twins. Years we have decent veterans. Everyone in the starting rotation has injury issues past or present. If they perform to their ability the Twins will be fine. But if they pitch to the mediocre side it could be awful. It's a staff that can go either way. I'm hoping they do well because the pitching is so important.
  23. Only the first preseason game but looks good. I noticed much was made of Kenta Maeda and rightfully so. The Twins had a 6-0 lead so someone and or others in relief must not have done too well...was it Cole Sands? It's only one game but was curious.
  24. Kind of a strange addition. I'm not labeling it bad just strange. It was kind of like when we added Gallo to an already overflowing outfield. No I'm not comparing Gallo to Salono at all , just their additions to areas we seem to have an abundance of. We will see how it all shakes out. Perhaps another trade or two?
  25. Moore would have been a good signing but the Twins don't pay market rates for their bullpen. It's low-ball the bullpen and hope they work out. To me the bullpen can be successful if the starters pitch further into games. But if it is still going to be the philosophy of letting starting pitchers go only 5 or 6 innings tops no matter how well the pitcher is throwing them I'm afraid that in the long run the bullpen will not be able to hold up as it is currently constructed and managed.
