  1. Bally Sports North as usual for me.
  2. I think he played one inning there a week or two ago.
  3. First, Gray has to be willing to stay. If he wants to go elsewhere any proposals are moot. We just have to wait and see.
  4. We have to overtake 3 teams to accomplish this. Highly unlikely. Assuming we advance, what will be more important for us is to make sure we are set up for the postseason: make sure players get enough rest and juggle the starting rotation. Our W-L record is a lower priority. On a related matter, if we were to make it to the World Series and play against one of the NL wild card teams would our division championship give us the first two games at home?
  5. I would not propose drastic changes in division alignment. Maybe if and when expansion takes place. Keep in mind team performances ebb and flow. In 2022 the NLC had a worse record than the ALC. The ALE became stronger this season due almost exclusively to the improvement of one team. I think the disparity in financial wherewithal from one franchise to another is the biggest factor here.
  6. One can easily find the video of this play on mlb.com With 2 outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth of a tie game in Kansas City, Gregory Santos of the White Sox committed a balk, resulting in a win for the Royals. Santos didn’t come to a stop in set position before delivering to the plate. It appeared in part that he was trying to get away with a quick pitch but also the pitch clock was very close to zero. It wasn’t clear whether the batter was ready in time but no violation was called. I think the game has benefited from having the pitch clock but I don’t think anyone anticipated that it would be a factor in a play that directly determined the outcome of a game. I don’t blame the clock here because the players are responsible for following the rules. Moreover, the outcome of this particular game is of essentially no consequence other than possibly determining draft position. But had this happened in a postseason game I expect a contentious discussion would have ensued.
  7. Less than smooth fielding by Julien but Correa’s cannon gets us the DP.
  8. Cody, don’t be too hard on yourself. We all overthink things sometimes. I’m just happy for myself as a fan, for all Twins fans, for the team, and for Royce Lewis himself. Let’s just enjoy it.
  9. I very strongly disagree. Terry Francona knew that the chance of winning last night’s game was infinitesimal. His objective is to win the AL Central division. He needs to use any means within the rules to that end. Trying to set his team up to win the next two games was of highest importance. He needed to protect his bullpen. Using a position player to pitch was by far the best thing he could have done. Burning relief pitchers in that situation would have been disrespectful to any knowledgeable fan and to the game.
  10. Francona has two options, one bad and one very bad. Bad is losing the game without burning the bullpen and very bad is losing the game while burning the bullpen. So what if this game winds up 25-1 instead of 12-1? At this point he has to do anything he can to try to salvage the next two games. Desperate times require desperate measures.
  11. This has to be the first time this has ever happened.
  12. A fifth starter is rarely if ever needed in the postseason and a fourth won’t be needed in the division round if things go really well. A staff of 12 or possibly even 11 should do the trick. Choose the four best starters (Gray, Lopez, Ryan, and probably a rested Ober) and then choose the best remaining 7 or 8 to round out the staff. Simple, but that doesn’t mean the decision is necessarily easy.
  13. Nothing against the player but must we include that uniform on this website?
  14. I appreciate the humor but I almost never let this subject matter go without saying that Gant was not lifted off the base by Hrbek. After Gant lost his balance and was tagged out Hrbek did apply some lift but at that point the play and the inning had ended so it didn’t matter.
  15. For Cleveland this is a must-sweep series. If we win or sweep we’re up 6 or 8 games with 22 remaining. Even leaving Cleveland with a 4-game lead is not unfavorable.
  16. I guess this thread is as good a place as any to post this. We have 25 games remaining. 3 are against an opponent who currently has a better record than ours. The Guardians have 25 games remaining. 15 are against an opponent who currently has a better record than theirs. They have a west coast road trip remaining. We are 5 games up in the standings. I don’t gamble on sports but I would take any even odds bet for us to win the division.
  17. Twins current ALC magic numbers: Over Cle: 21 Over Det: 18 Over CWS: 8 Over KC: -4 (eliminated) ALC teams’ magic numbers over the Twins: Cle: 31 Det: 34 CWS: 44 These numbers reinforce that we have a very high likelihood of finishing first in the ALC. If we don’t do that we will have no one to blame but ourselves.
  18. To get to AAA at age 22 just one year after being drafted puts him ahead of schedule. If he continues this rate of development he may be forcing his way to the majors next season. That would be a good problem to have.
  19. I believe if anyone on the postseason roster goes on the IL he can be replaced with anyone. Conversely, if any player comes off the IL he can replace anyone on the postseason roster.
