  1. No, you’re not. Grown men should be able to dress themselves. If they want something that opens in the back maybe get a medical gown. After all, Minnesota is the home of the world-renowned Mayo Clinic.
  2. It’s very telling that 94% accuracy is the standard for humans. I don’t have data to cite but I am confident that robo-ump systems far outperform even the best humans. Moreover, robo-umps can improve and humans cannot. To me it’s a travesty that robo-umps weren’t put into place years ago.
  3. I know of no reasonable argument against robo-umps. None.
  4. Or maybe you need it more than you thought you did.
  5. I take issue with the title of this thread. I don’t think anything about “the process “ went “horribly wrong “. I think the plan for managing Buck’s situation was the best that could be done. No one had or has a crystal ball. Everyone hoped that his health would improve with a reduced role and felt that it was a perfectly reasonable route to follow. It’s certainly unfortunate that this didn’t happen but I do not think that any mismanagement took place. You just do what you can and hope for the best. And that’s exactly what the team is doing now: following a plan they think will enable them to get the most they can out of him for the rest of the season and (we are all hopeful) for the postseason.
  6. What do a tick and the Eiffel Tower have in common?
  7. Vazquez avoided a double play by striking out.
  8. Dick just said Farmer was Lewis. I am serious when I say that I fear Dick is experiencing early signs of cognitive decline. There have been numerous such stumbles this season. He seems to be in full command of his understanding of the game and so forth but I worry.
  9. I don’t disagree but that didn’t stop us from seeing the LA Lakers or the Utah Jazz. Those names are far more incongruous. Of course a team that moves can change its name completely. 😉 Edit: not sure why the quote didn’t come through.
  10. I think there will be two expansion teams coming into existence 5-10 years from now. The likeliest places IMHO are Tennessee, North Carolina, Texas, and Montreal. There’s a group in Utah trying to get traction but I don’t think there’s enough people or money there. I certainly could understand the Rays going to one of those places but I have trouble believing that any other established team would look at any of these locations as a worthwhile upgrade.
  11. It’s well known that drafting good players is much more difficult in baseball than in other sports. I’m starting to think that the best way to acquire players is to trade for them after a couple years of minor league play. At that stage it’s much easier to evaluate a player and, with the exception of the highest-rated prospects, players can be acquired for less than the cost of getting a regular major leaguer. Of course, good scouting is the key.
  12. If ChatGPT wrote it it must be true.
  13. It’s past getting late. The sun has set for Oakland. The best they can do against Texas is a tie, but for that to happen Texas would finish behind both Houston and Seattle. They are also eliminated from a wild card berth. And this is with six weeks still remaining in the regular season.
  14. Hey, Sonny Gray is throwing a I know better.
  15. If we play .500 baseball for the rest of the season (20-19) here’s how the other teams in the ALC would have to do to finish ahead of us. Cleveland: 26-13 Detroit: 30-10 Chicago: 37-3 Kansas City would finish 6 games behind us if they win the rest of their games.
  16. Checking scores just now I hadn’t realized that the Yankees are sporting a 5-game losing streak that has dropped them below.500 at 60-61. I think seeing that is the highlight of my day.
  17. It was pointed out to me that Keuchel’s swing-and-miss total over two starts is zero. Zilch. Zip. Nada. He is no longer an MLB-quality pitcher. I think we would be better off going with Varland if a starter is needed.
