  1. They will go from a mediocre team by regular season standards to a mediocre team by postseason standards.
  2. Per Bobby Nightengale of the Star/Tribune: https://www.startribune.com/minnesota-twins-top-prospects-brooks-lee-walker-jenkins-promoted-st-paul-saints-mlb/600294562/
  3. Apparently the baseball gods didn't hear me the first time I asked. And now it may be too late. But pleeeeeeease can the good Joe Ryan come back?
  4. Happy with 0 runs. Not happy with 27 pitches.
  5. 1987 is an invalid comparison. The 2023 team itself may be remindful of the 1987 team but that's not the case regarding the postseason situation. Not even close. The 1987 team had the worst record of 4 postseason teams but only had to win 2 series and had home field advantage for both of them. Moreover, when they played St. Louis Jack Clark was out and Terry Pendleton was significantly gimpy. The 2023 team currently has the worst record of 12 postseason teams and is guaranteed home field advantage in only the first of four postseason series that they would need to win to become World Champions.
  6. Can we please have the good Joe Ryan back for tonight's game?
  7. Regarding trades made or not made, it's really the same old story: if a trade makes the team better you do it, and if it doesn't you don't. Sellers at the deadline will not accept anything that's not an overpayment and I expect that's what the FO encountered during the last week. This team doesn't justify overpaying in a trade so, unsatisfying though it may be, standing pat is the best outcome.
  8. It probably was a politician's line. And I feel certain that he did try to make the changes he hoped to make. Sometimes one succeeds and sometimes one doesn't. But I'll disagree with your last sentence. I think employees do better in a workplace where they feel that management supports them, no matter what the level of compensation happens to be.
  9. The net outcome was that the Twins appealed the play and the umpires called the batter-runner out at first base on the appeal, ruling he did not touch the base. St. Louis challenged the call and the call was upheld.
  10. What do you expect Falvey to say? "We know our team sucks but nobody wanted to trade their good players to us."? "We don't care about our record, we only want to stay in the black."? "We don't know what the **** we're doing so we figured it was best to do nothing."? I think he could or maybe even should have made a comment to the effect of challenging the roster to step it up, but it's good for employees in any organization to have the feeling that management supports them.
  11. You are entitled to feel the way you feel, but there are other events that occurred today that stir much stronger feelings in me than anything the Twins did or didn't do. Of course I want the best for the Twins but I just can't get too worked up about the team's front office.
  12. You are missing the beginning of the story. The Boss was very inspired by this song, which is one of the reasons he let Manfred Mann cover "Blinded By The Light".
  13. Don't know why it took so long for me to think of this. Must be slipping.
  14. I agreed, but apparently the baseball challenge gods owe us a few. We've had some pretty bad challenge calls go against us this season.
  15. Didn't take long for that jinx to take effect.
  16. By its inaction the FO is saying that we wouldn't have been able to improve our roster at a reasonable price. They are saying that it's up to our current players to improve their performance. Now. So OK, guys, do it. Let's see what you got.
  17. Between games of a doubleheader. https://www.mlb.com/cut4/cardinals-and-cubs-trade-outfielders-cliff-heathcote-and-max-flack-c232584078
  18. No bullpen has 8 lock-down guys and this statement is true for many, many relievers throughout the major leagues. He's good enough to be on the roster, but I wish we could predict when he is going to give up a home run because when he does it seems like it happens at the worst possible moments.
  19. First comment: Some people apparently didn't heed the title of the thread: More theory, less names. Second comment: Concur with many others that another right-handed hitting outfielder would be a good addition with the corollary that we can easily get by with one less left-handed hitting outfielder. Third comment: Concur with many others that improving the bullpen would be helpful and eminently feasible. I expect that one of the pitchers added to the bullpen will be one of our current starters, with Keuchel inserted into the rotation. His performance in AAA has been good enough that the FO will decide it is worth it to give him a shot. Moreover, he's inexpensive, both in terms of his contract and in terms of not having to give up a player in trade.
  20. Concur. I think the combination of Buxton at DH, Julien at 2B, Polanco at 3B and Lewis in CF is probably the best and most likely way to finish the regular season, making the shift FF posted for the postseason. I think putting Buxton in CF in the postseason has been the Twins' plan for several months. That plan means hoping for two uncertain things. One, that we qualify for the postseason with our current outfielders and, two, that keeping Buck at DH enables his knee to hold up well enough to play CF in October.
  21. What should happen is the umpire needs to adjust to the zone as defined by the rules.
  22. Once again, every player who does not have a no-trade clause in his contract should always be on the market and traded if the transaction improves the organization. Every. Player.
