The rationale seems to be using Jeffers as a pinch hitter when Caratini is catching. If something happens to Caratini after that point, Jackson will have to enter the game. It makes no sense. Interested that Jackson has a low overall batting average lifetime, but has batted about 330 in limited appearances. As others have pointed out, I believe that it is time to move on from Buxton as a full-time CF next year. He has been on the IL 3 times this year. With less than a month left in the season, why bring him back this year? There is no real reason right now to announce that Buxton is being sat down for the year. Technically they are on life support for the playoffs, so why make the announcement even if it is the most likely outcome. My guess is as soon as they are officially eliminated they will say they are shutting him down for the year. Saxophone Joe and Western SD Fan 2

But he is being treated no differently than any other face of the franchise would be by any other team in any sport. And based on his contract and talent level he is still the face of the franchise until someone takes that mantle from him.

But what I WILL say is that up to this point I haven’t seen much of a reason to not let him sort of call the shots. Not completely, of course, but I’ve been fine deferring to him on some choices (IL and positionally). But I’m sort of past giving him carte blanche. Especially when it comes to what position he’s going to play in 2027. We need him to be ok moving to a corner OF spot. He’s going to miss time. And trotting out a rando for a couple games when Buck needs a little break is so much easier in RF than in CF. Everything just works better with Jenkins as the everyday CF, even if it’s possible that a healthy Buxton is still a better CF than Jenkins. And dont waiver on it. Move Buxton to RF and don’t even get tempted to slide him to CF occasionally. He’s not your backup. He’s your Right Fielder. Let him be elite there for a few years. Just have a good backup plan with a good utility outfielder ready...which was not the case this year. There is a difference...Hunter did not have a history of only appearing in about 50% of potential games as a professional in addition to going on 3 IL stints in the same year as he approached his mid-30s. RF okay.....but be prepared to have a back up plan....a good team needs to be realistic.

RF okay.....but be prepared to have a back up plan....a good team needs to be realistic. Jenkins and E-Rod have been splitting time in CF this year. No reason that Jenkins can’t be your everyday CF and when Jenkins isn’t in the lineup for whatever reason, E-Rod can slide over from LF. If you want to flip flop those two, I’m cool with that, but to me, Jenkins feel more like your primary CF than E-Rod. But whatever. S Bart 1

They shut him down even though he was ready to come back by mid-September because the Twins could secure an extra year of arbitration.
