It would be beautiful to head home with a chance to sweep Chicago and get into first place (or least close to first or sneak back into the third Wild Card). Need the Royals to stay hot this weekend against Cleveland, too, though, hell, if KC keeps winning, they'll be nipping at our heels soon enough.

Bell with day off, Jeffers DH and $7MM man catching…glad they called up Jackson to waste a roster spot. He cleared waivers and you could have kept him in St. Paul…roster construction is baffling… guess they will pinch hit caratini at some point and Jackson will get a defensive inning late in game

They don't typically pinch hit for Caratini unless it is with Jeffers, so Jackson can stay in the clubhouse and keep the cards warm.

I am not sure why Jeffers couldn't play all three games of this series, Caratini has done nothing for the past month and a half.  Why the push to get his bat in the lineup is completely baffling.

And it sure would be nice to have Jenkins or ERod in LF and move Clemens to 2B, would be a much stronger lineup.

Baby steps.  The guys behind me at the game yesterday (I'm back home now) were wondering out loud why someone batting .313 (at the time) was 7th in the lineup, so I had the privilege to explain to him that he's a rookie.

You might like a one-two Culpepper-Keaschall punch at bottom and top, but Kreidler batting 9th gives more or less the same outcome if-and-when he gets on base, and meanwhile every rung up the batting order that Culpepper moves gives him 11% or whatever percent chance more of an extra plate appearance, which is starting to look warranted (though I want to pump the brakes until his BABIP regresses to a more normal value).

BTW, Culpepper showed his inexperience on a play at shortstop last night.  On a popup fielded by Lee, the two collided - fortunately Lee hung on.  Routine third out in the bottom of the 7th according to the box score.  Both players, as experienced shortstops, know who makes the call on every standard play, and either Culpepper tells himself "I'm the SS now" and waves the 3Bman off, or else stays an arm's-length away. Mrs Ash noticed Lee talking with Culpepper as they walked off the field; I trust that Brooks was kindly and effective, as the veteran of 2500+ innings of major league defense he now is, in whatever he had to say.

Is there a difference between Caratini and Vasquez.....a bit higher BA...salary?
