There was Twins Daily chatter about Lopez staying with the team despite the injury. This recent story by The Athletic is quite interesting. It is doubtful that an MLB player has ever taken this approach

You might like a one-two Culpepper-Keaschall punch at bottom and top, but Kreidler batting 9th gives more or less the same outcome if-and-when he gets on base, and meanwhile every rung up the batting order that Culpepper moves gives him 11% or whatever percent chance more of an extra plate appearance, which is starting to look warranted (though I want to pump the brakes until his BABIP regresses to a more normal value).

BTW, Culpepper showed his inexperience on a play at shortstop last night.  On a popup fielded by Lee, the two collided - fortunately Lee hung on.  Routine third out in the bottom of the 7th according to the box score.  Both players, as experienced shortstops, know who makes the call on every standard play, and either Culpepper tells himself "I'm the SS now" and waves the 3Bman off, or else stays an arm's-length away. Mrs Ash noticed Lee talking with Culpepper as they walked off the field; I trust that Brooks was kindly and effective, as the veteran of 2500+ innings of major league defense he now is, in whatever he had to say.

Actually,,,,I think, Clemens is the next person on the roster to be emergency catcher,,,if Jackson is dropped, the ini  man and Jeffers are hurt suddenly...Roger's son is up
