Say what you will I have found myself agreeing with a lot of what @USAFChiefhas been saying the last couple days as well LOL. I may even get him to agree that the draft capital from last year ie. Lackey could be pivotal in the Twins next potential wave at getting a World Series. 😜
 

There is a part of me that wishes the Twins had traded for Volpe so I could have gotten my popcorn to watch his reaction LOL.

That trade makes no sense, given the emergence and success both offensively and defensively of Culpepper and Houston in AAA and AA. If the Twins were a real threat for a strong playoff run, and Neto was considered the missing piece, then do it. But that’s not where this team is at.

Nein Neto for me .. I think Houston is our longterm answer and is closer to the majors than most believe. 

I mean, he moved up to AA and is absolutely destroying the pitching plus, he is by far the best fielder.

Hope not - don’t need any more ill will spread into the Roster/organization.

I get the potential interest with Neto’s age (& 3 or 4 years of control left, depending upon which line in the article is correct) - he’s got pop and athleticism.

155 strike outs on August 3rd …….. that should be a pretty big Red Flag ……. can this be serious? I guess if they got him they could flip Kaelin or someone this Winter for more pitching …….. seems senseless to me……unless Culpepper is not the answer?

Winokur can play above average (I did not say excellent) defense anywhere he lines up. He gets quick reads on batted balls both as an infielder and in the outfield.  I would say he gets put wherever the greatest need shows.

The key for Winokur remains his bat. He has big power but the hit tool has a ways to go. The stance and swing are changed, which has resulted in more contact even if his towering home runs and long drives are down. Players as tall as Winokur often have mechanical issues, such as a long swing. If he can comfortably adjust to the changes he has been using this year, Winokur could arrive at some time in 2028. It is also possible that he flames out at some point. Recently in a game I watched, Winokur popped a home run to right field off of a tough pitcher. He used his more compact swing. In the same game he took a big long powerful swing, one capable of driving a ball 500 feet. He came up empty on the big swing but his face looked like he felt good taking that big hack. Unfortunately Winokur will not get to MLB with the long swing and the refinements to a different setup and swing take time and discipline/focus on a daily basis. He remains a prospect.

It appears the Twins didn't have any real steam on trying to get Neto.  Dex said none his sources said this was a real option.   Maybe there was a call,  but the Twins were not "all over" Neto.  Nightengale truly doing his thing.

Maybe by "all over" he meant the Twins were over Neto the way that HS crush of mine let me know she was all over me when she told me it wasnt me, it was her.

If Houston can be 90th percentile fielding and 25th percentile hitting, he is good to go.

If Culpepper can be 50th percentile fielding and 40th percentile hitting, he is good to go.

I am astonished the Twins were pursuing Neto.

(And I think those percentiles are realistic, by the way.)

I went back and forth on Neto. 

In the end I have seen enough of Houston to believe his bat will advance enough to reach the majors, at which point getting a proven 20 HR bat paired with a glove that's at least average with plus durability in exchange for a pretty good glove that might be a pretty good bat and has had injury problems.   

Culpepper is a very good prospect, but he hasn't seen the elephant yet and we won't know how he hits until he hits.  What he has proven is that he breaks, and also that his glove is only going to last at SS until Houston comes and takes it from him. In that light he and Neto are similar, with the huge difference of Neto having shown he can play.  I'd send out Culpepper with some other youth to get that certainty.
