One of the Minnesota Twins' All-Stars won't be going to Philadelphia after all.

The Twins on Tuesday placed center fielder Byron Buxton on the 10-day injured list due to an ailing right hip. Outfielder Alan Roden was called up from Triple-A St. Paul. Also, the Twins officially added right-handed reliever Woo-Suk Go, acquired in a cash trade Sunday with the Detroit Tigers, to the roster. He will be making his MLB debut.

Buxton was selected Saturday to his third All-Star Game, but will not be playing in the game due to his injury. He has a .271/.328/.575 slash line and is among the AL leaders with 25 homers. He hit a career-high 35 homers a year ago. Buxton's career is littered with injuries that have prevented him from consistently putting up monster numbers.

Roden has been having a good season at St. Paul this year, slashing .272/.397/.512 with eight homers and 24 RBIs in 33 games. Roden spent time on the injured list this season due to a labrum tear. He appeared in 55 games last year between the Twins and Toronto Blue Jays, with a .191/.261/.294 slash line, hitting two homers and driving in nine. Roden and left-hander Kendry Rojas were the return in the trade with the Jays for right-handed reliever Louis Varland and first baseman Ty France.

I agree that the timing is good, even though it kind of sucks for Buck to have to miss the All-Star Game. Fedco is still on the roster and playing CF tonight since Cleveland is starting a LH pitcher. I think his tenure ends very soon as the man that goes when Jeffers rejoins the roster. Roden should start and play CF on Wednesday and Thursday when Cleveland is throwing RH starters. This is Roden's chance to show he's worth keeping when Buck is ready to come back.

While this is a major bummer for Buck and for the team, I'm kinda happy about it. First, nobody van take away his All Star selection. That will always be on his career. But second, with the break, he should only miss 2 series and get some rest for the final 2 1/2 months or so. I think this is a smart move.

I'm glad Roden is getting a shot, I just hate that it happened at Byron's expense. I think everyone but the Twins believe he should have been on the opening day roster instead of Outman. He should be playing daily unless facing a LHP and then you might still give Fedko a chance. That also means Kreidler can play SS instead of covering SS.

I feel silly saying this, but I'm kind of excited to see if Go actually has something to offer the pen. I don't expect anything but a solid middle man type of production out of him. But I like his mix and the fact that MAYBE he found something this season in his control/approach was lacking when he came over. He could also look very average to poor, in which case, it only cost a few $ to take a looksee over Laweryson.

This smells like the team finally had to make a decision on Buxton because they just needed help.  Prior to Saturday, I think the decision was largely Buxton's to make on how he was progressing.  We will never know the conversation that occurred.  I would have to think that Shelton went to Buxton when they flew to NY and asked if he could go or if they needed an outfielder.  Buxton has been a warrior and has tried to play through injury to his own detriment at times.  They would have been better served with Buxton going on the IL over the weekend in NY, retroactive to last Monday, and still could have been off the IL in time for the AS Break.

Great opportunity for Roden.  I'm sure he will be platooned in to begin with, which also means Fedko should be getting the start tonight (he is!). Hopefully, he does well and they can't send him back down when Buxton comes back.
