I did not have Paul Skenes getting tagged for 5 runs in the 1st inning on my bingo card today.

Side note, the Pirates defense may be the worst collection of players in years.

Perhaps managing the Twins isn't so bad after all.

I wouldn't mind it. It would be really good practice if i wanted a good managing job later on. Plus it would look good on my resume.

I'm channeling my inner @RpR here... Pittsburgh was talked about as a pick to click to make the playoffs this year. I look at their defense and wonder how that could be possible with an OF defense of Bryan Reynolds, O'Niell Cruz who's already showing he's not CF material, and Ryan O'Hearn who has no business playing RF.

God forbid if they have to put Marcell Ozuna out in the field...

I don’t think it is wise to start Caratini. He might get two at bats against the lefty but later in the game against a right handed pitcher he won’t be the best option. Clemens and Larnach are both better hitters against a right handed pitcher. Is Shelton willing to pinch hit for his back up catcher in a key last third of the game at bat? If so then I am OK with Caratini starting. Until I see it though I think starting him with Jeffers is a bad idea.

I also think it is good to have a couple of left handed bats in the line up to keep a lefty from getting into a rhythm. At bats are not independent events with the answer in a spreadsheet. Having to shift pitch mix for a lefty might make the location for the next right handed batter not quite as sharp. That next right handed bat might have a better chance to do some damage.

Caratini's OPS last season vs. RH pitching was .726, Larnach .759 and Clemens .762, not like there is worlds of difference IMHO. I agree that having a LH hitter or two in the lineup is a pretty good idea. However, on the Twins there aren't many LH hitters that merit starting against a lefty. The choices would be Outman, Larnach, Gray and Clemens. Given those options, I'd take Caratini, who is probably a better defender than Bell. I'm not fond of the roster, but given what is there, I think that should be the starting nine vs. LH starters.

Sure.  Pick the low hanging fruit.

Highly specific low hanging fruit.  Prepare to never hear the end of it.

Would it make a difference to you if it was .782?
