  1. Speaking of, Detroit is using him almost full time. 0-5 today, has popped a couple HRs, but on the year is striking out almost 50% of the time. There’s your Outman public service announcement.
  2. This is the consequence of having players so not established in their positions that they are moved around in season hoping they find a home defensively and/or show enough as hitters to “stick”. Ideally we aren’t doing this all season with multiple players but there’s always going to be adjustments. Some of them work out, but a lot don’t.
  3. Someone posted in a recent game thread the high incidence of Twins relievers coming in and immediately walking a batter. I didn’t look for data about it but it seems accurate. Likely it’s just a function of having poor relievers. But just one a many “little things” that cap you around 78 wins.
  4. I did. I was shown a few cards. Never regretted a single one.
  5. Definitely the exception, and a valuable asset for us. Problem we have now is the organization, and maybe the league in general, has devalued defensive fundamentals and accepted diminished performance on that side of the ball in favor of cheap moveable parts.
  6. Don’t you know that everyone can everywhere? At least that how it seemed the past few years. I’m with you; I think the consistency is more important than the supposed flexibility.
  7. All things considered Gray isn’t adding anything to this roster. Sure it was fun when he was hitting grand slams, but he’s been a negative in the field (3 error game I recall) and the magic has left the bat.
  8. Just too many of those weak fly balls from Luke
  9. I haven’t studied the numbers but Lee looks fine at 3B, and his plate appearances look a lot more consistent these days. It’s interesting how these things work; a lot of ink was spilled (I’m an analog kinda guy) early this season about how Lee at SS was killing us, but now he’s in rarified air as far as American League 3B. And I didn’t have Lewis on my bingo card as the possible answer at 1B. With Keaschall maybe looking passable in RF, and Kreidler keeping SS warm (and Gray hopefully demoted soon), suddenly I’m not losing sleep over our infield defense.
  10. Remember that time (today) when a team got a guy on first, bunted him over to 2nd, then a simple base hit scored him? Good fundamental baseball. Then remember that time a team led off with a double, and the next guy grounded out to the wrong side of the infield, and that guy on 2nd never scored that inning? Stuff that drives me nuts.
  11. Painful as it might be, we need to find out what we may have with guys like Raya. We know what we have with the never ending procession of scrap heap guys .
  12. All the building up for Raya emphasized few walks. Of course.
  13. This game has had a flat vibe since missing out on a possible big inning earlier. No energy. I guess watching a guy go deep 3 times will do that.
  14. I don’t know that you could have arranged a worse matchup by bringing Fundy in. I don’t get it.
