Soler, as a (very) poor man’s George Springer: maybe. No way on Garver, nostalgia wouldn’t fix the fact that he’s in serious decline and would only add to flawed roster construction. Refsyder? He had a nice moment or two but I think that ship sailed a while ago.

In a macro sense the moves are commensurate with an 80-ish win team that might squeak into a wild card spot, and likely get bounced. Honestly, that’s more than I imagined coming out of ST. So I’m pretty OK with moves that don’t further erode fan support and obviously weaken the team for the future. Go Big? Naw, not really. Wasn’t the year for that IMO.

Hey this was really helpful. As fans we probably all have a different idea of how this process works; this outline shows the process isn’t as random or chaotic as it may appear on Deadline Day. Regardless how how we may feel about Falvey’s time here, it sounds like he was pretty gracious in sharing his insights/experiences.

It’s such a different development path for catcher given the rigors of the position, how they have work so closely with the eccentricities and nuances of all the different pitchers. I’m biased I know, but I tend to cut any MLB catcher a lot of slack. Even AJ Pirzinski. Maybe.

Thanks for the correction. I must has partially repressed some of the details. As a catcher for most of my days, it crushed my soul.

Bringing up Matt LeCroys name is a sobering reminder of how big the chasm is between being minor league catching “prospect” and a functional MLB catcher. It still hurts my heart when I think of that Twins game he was forced (?) to play catcher and was mercifully pulled after virtually every guy getting to first would immediately steal 2nd. Like something you’d see in a Babe Ruth or Town ball game.

The half empty guy notes that we should beat a Witt-less Royals team 9 out of 10 times. The half full guy says TC has found many ways to lose a game like that in recent years. I’LL TAKE IT!

It’s certainly makes for odd chemistry and some cringy moments, but it doesn’t feel like any special treat or added value to me as a viewer. Glad it’s just one series per year. Now get off my lawn.
