I'd like to pass along my condolences and sympathies to all impacted by the shooting at Annunciation this morning. 🙏

So many sick people in this world. This shooter was a psychopath. Evidently they posted their manifesto on YouTube yesterday before carrying out the act today.

Watching Griffin Jax writhe on the mound in the 10th with a 0-2 count and Cleveland still has the devil magic over him.

I need to stop caring...

L- Jax (1-7) 4.91 ERA

A lot easier said than done, sometimes.

Lefty on Lauer x 3

Lefties are going to get their chances to hit against LH pitchers with the current roster. Bench tonight will be Gasper (S), Fitzgerald (L), Outman (L) and Larnach (L).

With as many lefty hitters as we have, we almost have no real choice but to do that.  It's just a matter of who Rocco throws to the wolves in any particular game to see how well they can do.

I just checked--Durán has allowed 3 runs and 10 hits in 7.2 innings, Varland has allowed seven runs and 12 hits in 10 innings (scored on in each of his last five appearances), Jax has allowed seven runs and 10 hits in 8.1 innings, Stewart is on IL and even Coulombe has allowed seven runs and nine hits in 8.1 innings.

Duran has seven saves and two losses and one of the runs he allowed was a Manfred man.

Just checked some other stats and the National League currently has one qualified hitter with a batting average above .300. Freddie Freeman is hitting .302. Lower the mound again?

Jax had something like a 8.59 ERA since joining the Rays...that was reported prior to Sunday's game so it may have changed since.

I can think of a few solutions, each equally likely to happen (read: not happening)

1. Ban sliders.  Even crappy relievers have filthy stuff that's unlike anything hitters in the past have had to face.

2. Lower the cap on pitchers on a roster to 10.  Pitchers would have to pace themselves more, velocity would decrease, breaking stuff wouldn't be quite as sharp

3. Move the mound back a couple feet.  This one feels just wrong for reasons I can't fully articulate

I'm kind of surprised at Julien as DH. I guess if you put Gasper as DH and something happened to Jeffers you'd be kinda screwed.

Technically today's loss in extras doesn't affect the ERA .. since it isn't counted as an earned run. Another Manfred oddity.

Yes it seems incredible that we traded in the cars right before the axles broke, the transmission went, and the wipers needed replacement.

Let me look in the back seat and see if there are any Jax back there..  🥴

Faulty roster construction. I wish they would let Fitzgerald play just a little bit.

Yeah, that's why I don't think you can buy a bullpen, you have to take the time to build one. Seems like routine, comfort and familiarity are too often required even for the best relief arms.

Three HR allowed in 12 games with the Rays, four HR allowed in 50 games with the Rays.

See what happens when you don't have a catcher of the quality of Vazquez..

I guess I’d be upset if they were really trying to win. Fitzgerald is what (?) 32 years old. He is magically going to become a competent major leaguer?

Keaschall (23), Lee (24) and Lewis (26) are the present and near future for the Twins. Seeing if Clemens and/or Julien can perform well enough to help next year should also be a priority. That doesn’t leave much time for Fitzgerald.

While I agree they should play everyone on the roster where do you play him when he is primarily a middle infielder.  Those are the two spots that we have players that need extended playing time and find out what they have for next year.  If you want him  at 1B then I would concur or even giving Keaschal timel over there but they don't seem inclined to do that.

Yeah, what a horrible year for a guy with some really good stuff, except unfortunately between the ears at times! I’m pulling for him but he’s his own worst enemy.

Julien as DH?  Yikes!

It's almost as bad as having Gasper there, even though he's at the bottom of the order.

Gasper might be a modern day Lazarus? Probably not, but you never know.
