Varland throwing in 80 games may not be a problem but when he is warmed up and does not come in can wear a guy out. Gardenhire was really good about not getting a relief pitcher all warm and then having them sit back down. In fairness getting multiple arms ready and overuse warming up seems to be a thing across baseball.
