The Twins’ top three position player prospects have all dealt with injuries during the 2024 campaign, which can impact their path to the big leagues. So, what are realistic timelines for these three impact bats?

The Minnesota Twins have an exciting group of position player prospects in their farm system, and three names stand out: Walker Jenkins, Emmanuel Rodriguez, and Luke Keaschall. Each of these players has shown promise, and their development will be crucial for the Twins' future success. This article will examine these prospects, evaluate their strengths, and project realistic timelines for their MLB debuts based on their performance and development in 2024.

1. Walker Jenkins, OF
Current TD Prospect Rank: 1

Background: The Twins selected Jenkins as an outfielder with the 5th overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. Jenkins, a high school standout from North Carolina, is known for his combination of power and hitting ability. Standing at 6'3" and weighing 215 pounds, Jenkins has the physical profile of a future middle-of-the-order bat.

Performance and Development: Jenkins has quickly made an impression in the Twins' minor league system. In his first taste of professional baseball, Jenkins showcased his power potential and ability to hit for average. His bat speed and strength make him a legitimate power threat, while his disciplined approach at the plate suggests he could develop into a well-rounded hitter. Defensively, Jenkins has the arm strength to handle right field, but he could also be an option in left field as he progresses.

Timeline for MLB Debut: Given Jenkins' age and development path, a realistic timeline for his MLB debut would be late 2025 or early 2026. The Twins will likely allow him to develop at a comfortable pace, focusing on refining his approach and improving his defense. After a delayed start to the season due to a hamstring injury, Jenkins is thriving with the High-A Cedar Rapids Kernels, hitting .291/.363/.500 (.863) in 124 plate appearances. If Jenkins continues to perform well and progresses through the minors as expected, he could be a candidate for a late-season call-up in 2025, with a full-time role possible in 2026.

2. Emmanuel Rodriguez, OF
Current TD Prospect Rank: 3

Background: Rodriguez is a highly regarded outfield prospect who signed with the Twins as an international free agent out of the Dominican Republic in 2019. Rodriguez has emerged as one of the top prospects in the Twins' system due to his impressive tools and performance in the minors.

Performance and Development: Rodriguez is known for his excellent plate discipline, power potential, and speed. Despite being just 21 years old, he has shown a mature approach at the plate, drawing walks at an impressive rate including a 25.1 BB% at Double-A. Defensively, Rodriguez can play all three outfield positions, with center field being his most natural fit due to his speed and instincts.

Timeline for MLB Debut: Rodriguez could make his MLB debut as early as 2025. He started 2024 in Double-A, posting an 1.100 OPS, but was shut down in July due to a right thumb strain. However, he recently started a rehab assignment with the Low-A Mighty Mussels. His development has been steady, and if he continues to perform well at the higher levels of the minors, the Twins may consider him for a promotion. The timing of his debut will likely depend on his performance in Double-A and Triple-A and the Twins' outfield needs at the Major League level.

3. Luke Keaschall, UTL
Current TD Prospect Rank: 4

Background: The Twins selected Keaschall, an infielder, in the 2023 MLB Draft. Keaschall, a standout at Arizona State University, has impressed with his ability to play multiple infield positions and his offensive potential.

Performance and Development: Keaschall is a versatile infielder who can play second, third, and shortstop. He has a solid approach at the plate, with a knack for making contact and getting on base. Keaschall's power numbers exploded this season with a .903 OPS between High- and Double-A. His defensive versatility and baseball IQ make him an asset in the field, and he could become a valuable player at the Major League level because of his defensive flexibility.

Timeline for MLB Debut: The Twins knew Keaschall would need Tommy John surgery at some point this year, so he underwent the procedure in mid-August. The team hopes he can be a full participant in spring training next year and ready for the 2025 regular season. It seems likely for him to begin next season at Double-A, while the weather is colder in St. Paul. Then he can move up to Triple-A after getting his feet under him again. A realistic timeline for his MLB debut could be late 2025, potentially earlier if he performs well.

Jenkins, Rodriguez, and Keaschall represent a bright future for the Twins. Each player brings a unique skill set that could impact the Major League roster in the coming years. Based on their current development and performance in 2024, Jenkins could debut by 2026, Rodriguez as early as 2025, and Keaschall by 2025. The Twins' ability to develop and integrate these prospects into the Major League team will be crucial to their long-term success and competitiveness.

I imagine the Twins will slow down a little with Jenkins.  He is 19 still.  I bet they start him in Cedar Rapids next year to see how he starts and be promoted to AA within a month or two of starting the season and playing most of the year at AA maybe finishing the year with a few weeks of AAA and starting 2026 in AAA with being close to arriving at anytime during the season.  Especially if there is an Injury or he hits the snot out of the ball and forces his way up, otherwise probably around 100 plate appearances and….In 2027 he will have a starting role at the age of 22.

ERod was robbed by injuries of needed development time this year as he could be up right now threatening to take Buxton’s CF job away from him as he develops at the major league level while Buxton sits on the DL.

Keaschall is making it interesting as we already have a crowded IF .  Who gets left out?  We have:

Julien, Lewis, Miranda, Lee, Correa, for 2B, SS, and 3B.  Miranda could stay at 1B with Julien on the outside looking in but Lee and Lewis are major league starters.  Where do you put Keaschal in a rotation with Dh, 3B, and 2B?

Emmanuel Rodriguez has a direct path to the big leagues the first time Buxton gets injured, although this front office might keep him in AAA because he bats lefthanded and they'd rather call up a RH hitter for the role.

Keaschall could be a starting 2B in the near future, or a super utility who plays daily similar to Castro.

Right now, he's been playing 2B/1B/LF/CF. His arm injury had him spending plenty of time at DH as well. I don't know that I've ever ready he has an overly strong arm, but I find myself wondering how strong his arm will be post TJ. Might it be stronger repaired and rehabbed? If so, it would be great if he could play 3B as well just to keep his versatility as high as possible.

All 3 of these guys are exciting and I agree 2025 will see the arrival of both Keaschall and Rodriguez. I think 2026 makes the most sense for Jenkins. No matter how talented, there's just so few guys ever ready for ML ball at 20yo.

Trades need to be made to open up the routes to the Majors.  I see Julien moving on.  Keirsey is a good trade chip if they let him debut with enough ABs to intrigue buyers. Santana should be gone. Kepler should be gone.  Margot and Farmer I hope are gone.  So some openings are starting to appear.

Jenkins really looks to be figuring it out now. He wasn't bad by any means earlier, but he's looking like he's putting it all together now. If he's the super star we all hope he is, a debut next year should be possible. I hope they don't go into spring with a predetermined plan on where he starts the year. I hope he's in big league camp and I hope he has the chance to start at AA if he mashes in the spring. But if he does start in A+, hopefully they're willing to promote him within a month if he starts hot. And once he gets to AA I hope they're willing to promote him as his performance dictates. Should have a legit shot at a call up at some point in 2025. Even if it's just a September call up.

Emma should have the chance to earn an opening day spot for the 2025 Twins. If he's looking like one of the 11 best bats (not including the 2 catchers) in spring he should start for the MN Twins on opening day. The deciding factor on his debut from here on out should be whether or not they believe he's one of their 11 best hitters. If he is put him in the lineup.

Not sure why the article mentions Keaschall as a SS at all when he's never played the position as a pro. He has, however, played quite a bit in CF. Being able to play 2B and the OF makes him pretty similar to Martin, but with a higher offensive ceiling.  The question about his timeline will be how much he's throwing early in the year. Position players come back from TJ much quicker, but they may not want him in CF early making those longer throws. But if he keeps doing what he's doing he's got the chance to jump multiple people and make a play for a spot in the bigs in 2025.

Most teams already have a guy like Keirsey Jr they can use as minor league depth.

Mikelink45 nailed it.  We need to make some trades because the Twins farm system has never been in better shape.  We have talent and it's pushing for advancement.  Some tough choices will have to be made and I hope we make the right ones.

With Keaschall needing Tommy John it may cloud his development somewhat, but with Lee, Lewis, Castro and Julien I see Julien as the odd man out.  Julien's value has taken a hit, but he looks like a prime trade candidate.

E-Rod and Jenkins just add to our overwhelming surplus of LH hitting OF's.  E-Rod will be up sometime in 2025, and Jenkins will be pushing hard for August 2025 or opening day 2026.  Kepler will be playing elsewhere.  That leaves Wallner and Larnach.  (there is also Kirilloff although his chances are diminishing).  That's a logjam.

So as mikelink45 said, trades will have to be made and hard choices as well.

Jenkins is 19.5 and will turn 20 in February. I think he will extend his stay at AA next year, ending the season in STP. He will debut at the beginning of 2026 or by June.

Emm, the beginning of next year or by June.

Keaschall's success depends on how his arm recovers and whether he can repeat it next year. He is right-handed, while Jenkins and Emm are left-handed, so he has that going for him. I wouldn't mind seeing him at 1B if his power continues to grow.

I just don't want to rush Jenkins because he's going to be special when he's ready ..

Right now if we trade Juilen he would be at a low, I can see him starting next year as utility playing 1B, 2B and DH.  We have enough players to fill out this group.  I also could see Keaschall+ a couple of more prospects to land a front line starter (maybe from the ultra cheap Pirates).  We need to clear room not only for the players, but for the pitchers coming in the next 2 years.  Let's hope the FA guesses correctly and packages some of the players for a #2 starter (I would have suggested Ryan be included, but the injury makes it not feasible).

Twins are hoping Jenkins can be our star of the future, taking over for Buxton in a few years. I think with the time he's missed this year he starts 25 in A+ with a promotion to AA after a few months. Possibly he could make it to ST Paul by the end of the year and start there in 26, with a call up sometime that year. Just don't rush the kid, do it right and let him develop the right way. I hope E Rodriguez and Keaschal can debut next year. Buxton will always need a backup and E Rodriguez could be a great OF bat. Certainly much better than Martin or Castro. Keaschal will help the IF with his bat. Julien looks to be the odd man out of they stick Keaschal at 2nd. If his bat really does well, maybe he's our long term solution at 1st base. Although I still think Lewis would fit best there. Either way, I think some trades will be needed to open roster spots for all these young guys coming up. I know they don't have much value now, but the guys I see as expendable are Julien, Kiriloff, Martin, Keirsey if he can put together a good showing. Castro would have the most trade value, but Rocco has such an obsession with utility guys I doubt we trade him unless his contract is up, or one of these young guys thrives at being a utility guy. Hopefully we can get some much needed pitching help from our stock of position players

All great points! These 3 guys seem to be fast tracking to MLB in their early 20’s!!! Our drafting and development has been amazing the last 5 years.  I see the Pohlads going the cheap route and keeping the younger/ more inexpensive players and trading away guys in their prime earning years.

I don’t see either of these guys not being in a Twins uniform in ‘26.  1 or 3 of them in ‘25.  Erod will likely get a starting role out of camp next spring.  Keaschall will be one injury away from a call up in ‘25.  Jenkins will be in St. Paul in Aug 25 if he continues to tear up milb pitching.
The next 2 guys chasing their way to AAA are K Culpepper and K Rosario.  If they start out hot in ‘25, add them to the AAA logjamb.

If Jenkins is ready to debut at age 20 in the majors, I hope the Twins sign him to one of those 9-10 year extension contracts so we have him for a while.  he would still be 30 as a free agent ......,

Also either Paddack gets traded this offseason or goes to the pen.  What do you think happens here?

Jenkins is at AA in Wichita as of this weekend. My assumption is he’ll start there in the Spring  and be possible MLB guy by Spring if ‘26.

Keaschall just had Tommy John, so his ‘25 is a little up in the air. I’d hope he may be in St. Paul by June or July. My assumption is Lewis/Miranda/CC/Lee have the left side covered heading into ‘25. 2B still seems to be an option for Keaschall at some point next season if he continues to hit.

IMO, if - if Buxton is healthy, nobody is taking his job. If he’s not, Kiersey-Castro are both probably well ahead of Emma at this point……assuming they both are still ahead well into ‘25.

IMO, Julien is really going to need to hit well the remainder this year and through next Spring to make the Team in ‘25. He gets no breaks with his marginal defense and there are other options!

Jenkins is #3 prospect in MLB at 19……..to me, after signing for $5M plus after being drafted, he’ll not be a cheap long-term signing guy. Not a bad thought for sure. (agent?)

I would really like to see Festa as the #5 guy in the rotation with Paddack moving to the Pen. Theoretically, with the potential of Varland being in the Pen along with healthy Stewart & Topa………adding Paddack as well could really lift the Pen’s stature.

FYI, Keaschall's 2025 season shouldn't be up in the air at all. This surgery was known to be happening for a long time and they planned it to let him play as deep into this season as possible while still being ready day 1 of spring training 2025.

Keaschall will work at 1B until his arm is ready for LF. EmRod is the automatic replacement for Buxton next year because he is the best defensive CF in the system. Lee likely needs some time in AAA. Trades will happen.
