DOUBLEHEADER GAME THREAD: Twins vs. Guardians 08/09/2024; 1:10 p.m. (BSN & MLBN) & 7:10 p.m. (Apple TV+ exclusive)

Message added by Squirrel,

Just a reminder, since we had some issues in the last game thread: no political talk or references are allowed in baseball threads. No name calling, either. And stop with the labeling of other posters. We are seeing way too many ‘haters vs apologists’ type comments. Banter, have fun, joke around, commiserate, critique or praise, disagree with one other, but be respectful with each other no matter what your opinion of them is.

I don't want to say that this is a make or break series, but it's an EXTREMELY important series. We need to take at least 3 of 4 from Cleve. If we roll over again to these guys, we're in big trouble. We need to get a fire in our belly and show that we can beat them. We've got KC for 3 next and they're right on our ass. Time to suck it up and play to our capabilities. Everyone. That includes the manager and his decision making. This 7 game stretch could get us up to the top...or drop us down so it might be damn tough to come back from.

Any Joe Ryan updates? I love it when good news is withheld

Still waiting on the Twins to print out the MRI results?

Yesterday there was a report that Falvey was somewhat optimistic about Joe avoiding a major injury but nothing sense then. Would presume the MRI results are available by now?

I hate these crapple tv games!

I’ve never watched an MLB on Apple TV+ broadcast. Are there any major problems with them?

Players will always deny that they look at the standings or worry about 'such things'. However one would have to be dead to deny these next 7 games are HUGE for many reasons...not the least of which is Twins must learn how to beat Cleveland one of these days! They have kept the door open for Twins but so far Twins haven't taken full advantage. Now its head to head and so far this season it has not gone well for Minnesota at all. Would love for that to change and would also love to get some key players back in the lineup.

Not to overlook KC either. Twins need to at the least, stay ahead of them. We are about to see what this team is made of. Pretty exciting.

Go Twins!

It would be nice to get your guy Correa back too. I know he’s a physical specimen who heals quickly but I would rather have him full strength in September than 90% in August.

all those streaming platforms are a royal pain...but that seems to be the future of pro sports. Last NFL season a key Bills game was available only on Peacock...which many don't have or want. But hey, its a business ploy to get people to spend more money...which is the way of the world these days. I hate it, but that horse has left the barn and its not coming back.

The broadcasters are generally not very knowledgeable about a team like the Twins.

Yup. Figured after what happened last season, they learned a lesson in terms of how to handle recovery. But he's sorely missed.

No. They're fine. It's only difference to me is the announcers. And they do just fine.

Per WebMD (I know, I know) - 2-3 months recovery time but surgery isn't typically required so the best case is he's back for the spring without any limitations or lingering effects.

Think that makes 10 guys who would normally be on our 40-man roster that are now on the IL, including 6 - 7 pitchers who were expected to be on the MLB club back in March (Duarte being a borderline case).  Tough run of luck, but its almost become normal.
