I know I rag on Buxton.  Some say excessively.

Guy is a phenomenal athlete stuck in a philosophy that is, was, and will drag him down.  He needs to get away from a pull...pull..pull like he's trap shooting system.

Contact is his game.

I’d say, getting the ball in the air is his game. But the constant rolling over on pitches on the outer half ruins that as well.

I think you’re fair. Back in my day (eye roll) a guy with his speed would have been coached/developed to maximize his impact by being a high contact, menace on the base paths type. His approach at the plate essentially negates his speed. He could be such a disruptive factor, in a good way, but as is he’s an easy out, No. 9 type player.

Santana is routinely getting beat by fastballs. That's the end for any ball player. It's not "can't hit the curve." It's "can't catch up to average fastballs."

Sometimes it happens at the little league level, sometimes high school. Or college. Or the minors.

And sometimes it happens because age is undefeated.

I don't think this is just a slow start. Santana looks completely cooked to me.

Just joining so I'm sorry if this was already discussed. Do most of us agree that this should be the end of the Louie Varland, big league starter, experiment? I say put him in the bullpen, not back in AAA as a starter.

Gotta Disagree,  Bullpen ? he has zero control and allows way to many walks-Hits  Homers,  Louie lucky to be so young , Maybe learn some Korean or Japanese and well see in 2-3 years, Alot of players have !!!!!!!!

Martin hasn't impressed much in the outfield, has he?

That's a terrible play to cost a run. He was never catching that, got too close to the wall, cost the team a run.

He’s an adventure out there for sure!

Jackson just doesn’t have the stuff to test the middle of the plate

I’m astounded at HOW good Rocco must think his defense is…and HOW bad he must think Kirilloff’s is to not have Kirilloff at 1B and Jeffers at DH in today’s lineup.

I guess in Jeffers' case there's some merit to giving a catcher a full day off now and again. Catching is tough duty.

And it was and remains pretty clear Santana wasn't signed to be a part time 1st baseman. He was being counted on as the every day guy from the time ink went to paper on the contract.

I'd assume he gets another month, month and half of full time duty before any changes to that.

My thinking is that Varland looked good in the bullpen last year in the playoffs, so let's see if that can continue. Maybe it's a mental thing where he can concentrate better in short bursts or maybe he's just more relaxed. You're right, the way he's pitched this year an overseas stint might be the way to go. I say let's make him the closer in St. Paul for a week and then give him a shot in the Twins bullpen.

I liked this but it means I agree with it. I'm not sure at this point anyone would like the idea of another 6 weeks of Santana as a daily first baseman. Except for 29 other major-league teams who are probably quite cheered by the prospect.

Is it too soon to want a fire Rocco Baldelli poll. Can't fire all the players

This entire team needs a swift kick in the rear. They are so apathetic and indifferent to how poorly they are playing.  You can tell they are poor in all phases of baseball right now.

But, but, Jackson is one of those guys we couldn't believe was available to strengthen our bullpen and make it one of the best in the majors.  We didn't have to spend money with guys like that just sitting there for the taking.  Just ask around.

... I am happy to have to go mow the yard for the first time this year...

1 May, earliest I even check on the lawn.
15 May, earliest Target Field gates finds my butt in the seat.

Just got back from the gym and tuned in on the net.

I see the Twins have more hits than Ks.

I miss the bomba days.

I’d much rather had you respond with a quip.

Twins ate back in the sh!ther again. Wondering if this 2021 revived or if there is any chance to cone out of tailspin.

Maybe when Correa and Lewis get back, they go a run. With Lopez, Ryan and Ober, there's enough starting pitching. But the tailspin may do more damage than they can overcome.

Switched over to METS @ LAD.  Dodger stadium looks so nice on TV.  My wife and I went last TC series there.  Freddie Freeman bobblehead day.  Both got one then gave one to a little kid sitting around us that had missed out.  No kids asked for other one (some adults) kept it.

Stadium living on its laurels.
