A real manager would have told Buxton to take a seat for not running. The way the ball came off the wall he may of gotten an inside the park HR.

Exactly.  A .180 hitter standing there admiring his hit.  Disgusting.  Maybe batting .280, I would still be disgusted, but a bit more tolerant with that average.

Most of those situatuions are based on career numbers. Not based on current performance, which is needed on a daily basis. Example: Julien has good numbers verses RHP but this year is hitting lefties better. So what does Rocco do? He puts him in the leadoff spot against righties and bats him 9th against lefties. That is NOT Managing based on how the player is doing. It's based on what he has done in the past. They aren't playing games from the past. Sorry, that's NOT good managing no matter how you try to twist it.

If Lewis goes 1-14 when he comes back do you want him to be moved from 3rd to 8th in the line-up? ………Managers play, they manage, based on % of success. It’s a 162 game season and this typically makes an awfully lot of sense.

How many hits does Julien have v. LH pitching this year? He’s got 10 total hits so I don’t think it’s some big wave of productivity. He’s hitting .169……..if he’s not hitting RH pitching, which he is supposed to be proficient at, why would anyone expect him to excel against LH pitching at some high rate?

I felt sorry for Larnach being called up w/o ample time to heat up but he came through tonight. Wish for continued success for him. This game had to be & should have been won. Hitting & pitching was adequate to win the game but what really lost the game was the defense. GBs bled through the INF mainly because as always SS & 1B shade too much towards 2B to cover for Julien so GBs get through between Santana & 1B and between SS & 3B. And when Santana has to hold the runner on 1B, GBs bleed through 2B & 1B. On a wet field the throw home needed to be on the fly and Julien had plenty of time to make a good throw but he didn't. To blame Vazquez for the ball skidding past on a wet field is pretty lame.

As long as defense is on the table, I guess it is only fair for one to consider the 2 gifted runs by Detroit because of their defense, eh? 12 Ks and 5 hits rarely is adequate to win baseball games.

The excuses keep piling up.  Bad luck?  Crummy weather? Weak hits by opponents.  Keep in mind the Twins were gifted 2 runs by Tigers mis-playing them.  If Baldelli had any guts he would have benched Buxton after he stood at home plate watching his fly ball being mis- played then almost getting thrown out at home.  Continually pinch hitting for Kiriloff because of him maybe having to face a left handed pitcher is getting old.  Especially when you have a right handed stiff pinch hitting for him.  Kiriloff is your best hitter in the lineup at the moment.  Analytics are ok but if your players can't perform then you need to manage the game.  Plus we keep getting told it's early.  We will be fine like last year.  I'm not buying it.  But I will say this.  We are in the beginning of a time where we will play the White Sox 7 times in 10 days.  Yes the lowly 3-16 Sox.  They should win most if not all of those games.  Then they will proclaim how great they are playing.  If they are still playing poorly at the end of that stretch then it's time to dump Baldelli and the coaching staff.

I see the spelling police is selective and gives you a break on Kirilloff. 😇 4 years in…… and there would still be a lot of tickets on this site.

I saw here the other day that Jeffers & Kirilloff are ignoring “the coaching” & that’s why they are succeeding…….just silly.

Kinda creative though, lol

Lots of mistakes in this game.  The one that I cannot forgive is Buxton standing at the plate admiring his ball.  There is absolutely no reason not to run hard on every hit ball.  Kirby Puckett would have puked watching Buxton on that play.

Hrbek and Gaetti would have decked him.

If the team is sloppy, that's on the manager. Look, I hate to sound like the old grumpy guy that I am, but Tom Kelly prepared his teams. They took fielding practice and those teams were defensively sharp. They worked on the details like taking extra bases, and that helped them make their own luck.

You might say that today's players are different, but if you watch the Astros play, it's notable that they just cut fewer corners and pay more attention than the Twins. It's team culture.

Timing. Astros are 7-14 so far this season. 1 game under .500 worse than us. But point taken. Their run of success provides for reactions to be more lenient.

Weak, pathetic, grammar police. How petty of you.

I kind of liked groves. My cartoon bubble had a bunch of us TDers sneaking of of some orange trees ready to pounce.

You have to wonder what these guys did in Spring Training, other than develop losing habits.

But loud voices here say Spring Training is meaningless.

The Twins stunk in Spring Training, and are now a near duplicate of that team.
