Let's see...if I remember right, we had him for $11 mil last season The Nats get him for $5 or $6 mil this season, if he meets performance perks. That means some lucky team will get him for probably $2.5 mil next season!

He looked so miserable last year when he couldn't find the ball. So now on to the Capital for all to witness as he shoulders his burden in his quest for more cash .

Other than the 70 million they will be spending on two broken pitchers this season... they are not really spending any money elsewhere so If they want to just dump 5 million into the Potomac they can.

However... if you put the money aside and focus on that roster spot that Gallo gets... that's a crying shame.

Someone else... anyone else should get that roster spot.

Why?   This just feels like spending money to spend money.

I mean, DC is a good market, they should be spending money. They probably slapped 5M on the table and told the remaining free agents, "Come and get it." Gallo's faster than he looks.

I hope he hits .230 with 45 HRs just because it'd be a fun story and I like the crazy seasons that come out of nowhere. 5 mil is a crazy number to me, but it just goes to show that once the league decides you have big time potential you just keep getting chances.

Even when you prove you dont have big time potential some guys still get chances.  Dave McCarty comes to mind.

The Nationals are a sad sack team trying to pull themselves back together.  Joey Gallo is their Josh Willingham.  He won't hold back Dylan Crews. He won't hold back James Wood, He won't hold back Elijah Green. He won't hold back Daylen Lile. He won't hold back Robert Hassell. He might sell a few tickets. He won't affect anything.

Trade deadline lotto ticket too.

And if they have no one on base, pitchers are less likely to worry about grooving pitches to him; he could put up some hallow power numbers to intrigue some contender.

Bat him leadoff, like the Twins did a few times this season.  Once or twice he'll get ahold of one in the bottom of the first and stake his team to a 1-0 lead, giving the sparse crowd something to cheer right away.  (Unless the dinger merely pulls them to within a 2-1 deficit.)

Aw, brings me back to the Metrodome days of the late 1990s when there were only a couple dozen fans in the left field sections, all of us running after a ball that bounced off of a seat that wasn't within 20 yards of the closest paying customer.

Some of those balls took some crazy carroms as they didn't have any soft fleshy humans to slow their velocity!

Have I ever mentioned that my older son lives across the street from Nationals Park?  He can go upstairs to the community entertainment room in his building and watch the game; living his best life.  I'll have to ask him how excited he is over Joey.

That's an awfully nice setup! Can I crash at his place in 2026 when I do my 30 stadiums in 1 summer tour?! 😜

I'm sure he'd welcome you but just be aware: it's a long way from his place to Dodger Stadium and many of the others.

/ edit - I feel as though I have somehow threadjacked this discussion. How 'bout that Joey Gallo?

Probably a pricey taxi ride there. Maybe Uber has a long distance discount rate?

That is pretty nice, if I lived in one of those metros, that would definitely be a perk I'd consider paying extra rent for.

I'm not sure who's been downtown Minneapolis in the last year or so, but a new high rise was built across 5th street overlooking TF. First building that could really get a good look at the field.

That rendering of the hypothetical new New Comiskey showed a bunch of those too.

Meanwhile, Wrigley went and first intentionally blocked the views for the iconic rooftop bleachers on Waveland and Sheffield, then decided they should just instead own them and profit from those tickets as well. Oh those lovable Cubs.

Hey Willingham put up .353/.446./799 and a 121 OPS+ with the Twins.  Gallo isnt doing that

Are they clones of one another?  No.  Is the philosophy behind the signings similar?  I'd say yes.
