I can't tell if this is a joke or not.

No joke!   They shouldn’t get injured so easily.  Swinging and running to 1st?   How can that cause a trip to the IR?   Going to go out on a limb and say strengthening their core should prevent many of these guys going down with muscle injuries.

Concur.

His BABIP was .179 to start the year and throughout his career in majors and minors it had been above .300. That .179 had a huge impact on his stats. His strike out rate was good at 11.8%. His expected batting average and slugging were both above league average at .247/.428. He will absolutely find a home.

Stretches of 100 or so plate appearances with a very uncharacteristic BABIP happen all of the time. Sometimes we get excited about a great stretch when we shouldn’t. Sometimes we give up on a player when we shouldn’t. It gets magnified when that stretch is to start the year. The player also starts to qorry and maybe starts making adjustments they don’t need to make compounding the struggle.

Gordon hit well the second half of 2022. We've seen Willi Castro for two-thirds of a season and he hasn't hit league average in that span. However, Willi does most everything else better than Gordon. Willi is a better and more versatile defender and a real threat on the bases and he's a switch hitter without big platoon splits.

Buxton injured again. What can you say at this point ?

Knee again?  I ask because honestly I don't know for sure.

What I do know is I don't like his "Home Run or Bust" approach at the plate.   He's turning himself into MIguel Sano.

It's my stupid opinion that players concentrate on bulking up rather than conditioning (i.e. core strength, flexibility, etc.) because the home run is viewed as the nirvana of baseball.

Hamstring tightness I believe.

I am taking both into spring training. There is space for both on their inexpensive contracts. If everyone is healthy and Brooks Lee has a great spring they can DFA one with little salary consideration. I would not take the 33 year old Farmer to arbitration. His salary will be harder for them to let go.

That is interesting!

If/when Gordon returns I believe he will still be a utility player this season. However I think he is far more valuable to the team than Gallo, who definitely should be only a utility player going forward. Gordon may be useful down the stretch. He isn't as bad as some here feel he is. Not any everyday player..and barring other injuries I don't think Rocco will turn him into one. Could be wrong.

Buxton back on the IL. Well thats like saying hey the sun came up again this morning, in the east no less. Pick a part of his body, any part, and it will likely be injured. Like waiting for Godot (got that all you English majors!!) we keep waiting for that magical season when Buck plays without injury. It hasn't happened. Probably never will. Even as a DH he still finds a way to get hurt.

True, but doesn't that also describe Willi Castro? And Castro hits lefties better and steals more bases than Gordon. I like Gordon as a bench player but I think I like Castro even more.

Good points. Castro has certainly been a pleasant surprise this year, especially with his speed and getting some hits when we need them to win games.

Any update on Lewis?  Seems like he should be about ready to start a rehab assignment?

I think Mr. Gallo is finally exhausting even this FO's patience.  He has been given every possible opportunity and just seems to be unable to hit any more. 3 K's last night with only a single foul tip on a night where the opposing pitching seemed quite hittable by everyone else in the lineup.....

From what I read at the time his recovery was estimated at 6 weeks, I think. So might be another two or three. But I haven’t heard or read anything lately about him specifically.

I would expect that Lewis should be ready for a rehab assignment soon--within a week.

Yes, Gallo's gotta go. Right now, he's holding down first base. Solano, Luplow and Kepler have big league experience at first (Kepler only has four innings). The key is Kirilloff. The report was that he had a cortisone shot last week and is "resting and strengthening" his shoulder. If he can return, there is no way Gallo should remain on the team.

I am pretty sure this would violate the collective bargaining agreement.

I think they should be wary of Lewis staying healthy enough to stay in the lineup and have a very good backup plan.  This team is such “when and if” team.  Very frustrating.

Any updates on Donny Barrels? The Donovan Solano injury from last night, radio broadcast they were saying sprained knee? That would sound like DL or IL stint from the description. That's the Sh!t's for sure if true, cause then he who should not be named will have to play.

Even if Donny hits the IL, with a right hander on the mound, Gallo almost will certainly be starting at 1B.  To the question of who gets called up if that happens is a good question.

Latest I've seen is still sprained knee, but they hope it's a day to day thing. Haven't heard that they've said anything about the MRI results which could obviously change a lot.

Nice and ambiguous . . . .

Buck isn't right.  Hasn't been right all year, IMO.

A guy hitting .210, striking out bunches and unable to play the field has very limited value (IMO).

Either Buck isn't doing the work to get himself right (unlikely) or his body isn't capable of the grind which is MLB (more likely).

We have more than enough experience with this by now to believe "it's not going to change."

At a point now (IMO) where he needs to be sent to someone who really knows this stuff to get fixed.
