For the Twins, yes.  For Walker Jenkins?  No.

Depends on how you look at it. To me it's either 7.2m or 7.4m vs zero dollars now and the risk of something higher later or still zero. He ain't getting that kind of NIL money.  To argue over 300k at the risk of everything is like crying about the drapes when you buy a house. It's couch cushion money for Jenkins too.

If a framework was agreed to you should honor that,  not try to squeeze out additional money because you think the organization has the money.  Yes you are talking 200,000 to 300,000 but if you are willing to do that with 1 pick,  more agents will do the same and you are no longer looking at just 200k to 300k.  We can all say we wish the Twins would spend more.  They are beginning to spend more,  but we are likely to remain still in the bottom 1/3 in payrolls.  We will see what happens.

Fantastic news. Most exciting draft signing since Buxton. No disrespect to Lewis or Brooks Lee who were great picks themselves but Jenkins would have gone way before 5 in any other draft year. The fact he goes straight to #21 in the top 100 prospect rankings says it all.

It's going to be fun to be a Twins fan for the foreseeable future. In a few years time we're looking at a line up of:

Lee 2B/SS/3B

Correa 3B/SS

AK 1B

Jenkins RF

Buxton CF (hopefully)

Julien DH

Lewis 2B/3B/SS

? LF

Jeffers C

Glad that the Twins were able to sign Walker Jenkins and hope he moves quickly (3 years?) through the system to become a star.

What was befuddling was the total lack of any conversation regarding Jenkins in the last ten days or so. The consensus, apparently, is that there was an agreement and that the deal would be easily completed before the deadline. Then, the Twins go down to less than two hours before the kid could waver or some slip happens (seemed completely unlikely) to screw things up for this draft pick. Seems like there would have been a few articles/ speculations somewhere along the line. I mean, we did see/read numerous articles on Skenes, Crews, Langford, and Clark across various media.

No matter, it is done - get him to the plate.

I mean, all things being equal, obviously I'd like to sign either of those two players. Teams rarely sign those late round HS bonus grabs, but the ones that do sign, do any of them ever work out? Serious question, I can't think of any, but obviously I don't know the draft background of every MLB player.

By most accounts, this was a 5 player draft and we had pick 5.  If the Twins come out of this draft signing everyone but the consensus top 5 pick, it'll be a giant failure.  If you need the signing bonus money to sign Jenkins and player 19 and 20 are left unsigned, you do it.

Scott Boras just got an entire free day's press for his draft pick.

Exactly, and himself. Whose names were on various sites all day - Jenkins and Boras. Boras tells the Twins prior to the draft, we need to get paid over slot and we will sign on the last day. The Twins agreed. No harm to the Twins, except some anxious fans. Now, the press is Boras got overslot for his guy and Jenkins got much more pub than Clark.

Means it was on the agent and not the Twins . . . most likely Boras trying to squeeze out a few more dollars.

It might have been the Twins trying to go under slot to throw some money at one of the unsigned picks and the Twins blinked first.  Or maybe Boras wanted the full amount they could spend without penalty and his side blinked first.  We don't know. We may never know.  In a month week we won't care.  (But it's the day of, so right now we care.)

Buxton won’t be in CF, but maybe Rodriguez is for a few years. Either way, Rodriguez and Jenkins should be in the OF for years.

The really odd amount and it being only $4,500 over slot should be a clue.  They ended up paying him the exact amount of their remaining draft allocation.  It took time to figure that out and Boris held out for every nickel they had to spend without penalty.
