Cano and Rooker All-Stars! Man, what would our current team be like with those two in the clubhouse today?

Cano has done quite well after solving his control problem for the first time in his life (note: he was awful for the O's in his brief call-up last season too). Good for him, but let's see if he can sustain it.

Rooker had a great month and has been back to being a poor hitter who adds nothing else. (bad OF, can't really play 1B, no speed, etc)

Cano in his current form would have been great in the bullpen, but let's not pretend Rooker moves the needle. He's a pretty bad all-star but Oakland has almost no one to pick from. (Noda might be the only other choice, and unless Rooker gets out of his tailspin he might be the only hitter worth anything on that horrid team)

Thanks! I'd prefer him over Jansen for sure, and Clase and Cano (though for this year, Cano deserves a spot for sure).

Well Rooker in May .198/.289/.327/.616 and June .191/.267/.353/.620

So I am thinking he would have fit in nice. Rooker being an all star is a Joke.

He's definitely in the Ron Coomer "gotta pick someone" category of all-stars, and he has managed to be an even worse all star than Coomer was. (No small feat)

No insult to ANYONE selected to ANY ALL STAR game. Good for them!

Gray deserved it. So did Ryan and Duran.

But honestly, while I enjoy my favorite team having players recognized, and dislike those deserving being snubbed, I just don't care.

Gray has been there twice, and I hope he does well and enjoys his time there.

When I was a kid in the 70's, a teenager and early 20yo in the 80's, I enjoyed both the ALL STAR GAME as well as the NFL PRO BOWL. I even watched the NBA ALL STAR game so I could watch 2-4 Laker greats perform. And I saw some great games, some amazing plays, and I saw some of my favorite players have defining moments at times.

But a lot of things have changed. The NFL PRO BOWL is touch football now. Defense has completely disappeared from the NBA ALL STAR GAME. But more than that, it was a struggle when I was younger to watch the Twins and Vikings. Cable TV was in it's infancy. I was able to watch Laker games for a couple decades on cable before TV caught up with the NFL. Even then, for YEARS, the Vikings were 57.0 WNAX out of Yangton SD, with a few games on TV. The Twins were the same radio station, DECADES, except for trips to SD to see family where I could catch games, UNTIL the internet blossomed and streaming became available. And that's been what, 10yrs now?

All of the changes is how the games are played, combined with greater access, all of the "reward" games just don't mean the same to me any longer. I haven't watched a single one in years now.

I'm almost happy that Duran and Lewis are not in the game for an extra rest. I almost hope Gray declines for whatever reason, to get extra rest as well, even though I'd NEVER deny an opportunity to have fun and enjoy the reward.

But as a fan, I'm just a fan of the reward games any longer.

BTW, if MLB wants to grow MLB, a couple things they could do is:

1] STOP BLACKOUTS for those who subscribe to the APP. I shouldn't have to be forced to watch the KC broadcast when the Twins play the Royals. They are 4hrs away from Omaha, and I'm NOT buying a car there or visiting a local restaurant.

2] I forget who they have providing the radio version of their casts, but they are always behind, and the signal is often lost.

3] When the MLB network has "REGIONAL GAMES" on their network, QUIT SHOWING games that are East Coast or West Coast. Since when does anyone in the Central Time Zone want to watch a Boston Tampa game vs Twins and Guardians? I know my geography pretty well, and Boston/Tampa is NOT "REGIONAL"!

EXIT my soapbox rant to derail the thread.

tough to prove it on the mound when you only pitch 32 innings and only accumulate 12 saves.  Cano has more innings pitched, a better ERA and a better WAR.  Part of the reason Jansen gets in is because he has more saves.

At 42-43 I'm not overly surprised only 1 Twin made it. One or two more may get in as injury replacements on the pitching side (Ryan and Duran). I would guess an all-star appearance would help the players in their arbitration years.

Ryan would be a candidate to replace someone, but he is scheduled to pitch on Sunday.

Duran's usage hasn't been the pure closer role that we see for most teams with a top arm. He's worked multiple innings several times and come in before the ninth on occasion. Baldelli probably would use him more traditionally if he had more arms that he could count on. Because of this, Duran hasn't put up the kind of save numbers other relievers have put up. That doesn't make him less dominating.
