Sentimental Thank You to Twins Daily Faithful

I don’t know why (maybe I ate something funny), but I got up today feeling extra sentimental. I moved to Texas from the Twin Cities area a year ago. I am a die-hard and LOYAL Twins fan (to a fault), and I have no one down here to talk Twins and commiserate with! I am the type of fan that refuses to support any other team, so I cover my ears and loudly say “LA LA LA LA” anytime the Astros are mentioned….. that being said, the Twins Daily community has been my saving grace and I am so lucky to be able to log on and talk shop with you guys. It’s a great community here and I never miss out on the comments, rumors, gripes, celebrations, and recaps. Thanks TD crew!

I hear you ... I'm not in the TC area, either. When I moved to ChiTown, I needed to find me some Twins fans, so started posting on the old espn boards, I think, and then rolled with the group who formed BYTO, then rolled here when that site melded with this one. Many of us are from 'abroad' (meaning outside Twins territory.) You should talk to @Vanimal46. He recently repatriated himself to Minnesota from Texas.

This site is a lifeline for me, as a lifelong Twins fan. I grew up in Orlando and used to see the Twins  play spring training games there, and then I followed them via their minor league teams in Orlando for many years (before the move to Ft. Myers). I would also fly up to Minneapolis each summer and see Twins games at the Humpty Dome, climaxing it all by attending games 6 and 7 of the 1991 World Series. Man, that was amazing! For the past 20-plus years I've been based in Southeast Asia, mostly in Thailand, but I still check online for Twins news and box scores each and every day. Thank you all for contributing to this site!

I too am in enemy White Sox territory and really love how Twins Daily keeps me engaged and enjoying the Twins.  Being originally from "far reaching" Twins territory in South Dakota, I grew up listening to Herb Carneal on the local WNAX radio station, mostly from the seat of a tractor before I moved to the Chicago area.  Being around two other baseball teams, with their own local coverages and biases can be frustrating at times, but I think it also helps give me a little more perspective that we are neither the greatest nor the worst team around.  Thanks everybody from making this a great baseball site!

When people ask where I'm from, I say, "I'm from Iowa, but I live in Indiana."

Are you intentionally channeling James T. Kirk with that line?

Dr. Gillian Taylor : Don't tell me! You're from outer space.

Kirk : No, I'm from Iowa. I only work in outer space.

Anyhoo, same general story for me, here at TD.

Agreed. I remember following these guys back when it was sethspeaks, and three other websites (can't remember what they were called, now. Gleeman had one. Nick and John each had one, too?) I lived out on the east coast at the time and it was great to find a community of fans.

The lack of Twins games on TV this year has really hurt my enjoyment and care about the team but TD is still fun.

Wonder if there are any other twins fans in Europe here like myself. Though I grew up in Germany, now studying in the Scotland so I never really had anyone to even talk baseball with, unless I was visiting the family in MN

There’s a new poster @UK Twin who I think is in the UK somewhere. We used to have a poster here from Germany somewhere. He may have been in the military and stationed there, but I can’t recall.

Not an intentional reference, but I did grow up about seven miles from the town that pronounced itself Kirk's future birthplace.

How long ago did TD start?  I think Seth still had his own site when I left Germany in 2008, but there was someone else here who was at the same base I was and who likely umpired some of the slow-pitch games I played in (back when my knees allowed me to play - I'm relegated to umpiring now.)  His time overlapped mine, but continued on after I left,

I think I can figure out the name - but it isn't coming to me right now.

Riverside didn't pronounce itself to be Kirk's birthplace. It is where he will be born.

No, Winchester, which is near Southampton (that only helps if you know your UK cities!)

Makes me think of the song “Winchester Cathedral.”

Some time ago while on a visit to England (August 1995, I think, since I remember the 50th V-J day being celebrated in London that trip) I think I passed through or nearby that beautiful city on a pilgrimage to see HMS Victory in Portsmouth. Stayed in a B&B on the hard.

Wow two of us, yeah I would think there would be one or two guys in Germany with the military since it has the 2nd highest foreign troop count. Though I wasn't born there as a military family
