Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 See? This isn't impossible. Last night's game was frustrating as hell, yet the game thread remained civil. And the Twins won! I'm going to be starting game threads for at least a few days but I won't be able to monitor this one closely because I'll be at Target Field. So behave yourselves. No incessant grinding down of the same points, not everything that happens under the sun is Rocco's fault, and baseball is a silly game that is meant to be enjoyed. If your'e not enjoying it, consider a walk. It's going to be nice outside today. Though I won't be here, some moderators will and they have my expressed permission to thread-ban without warning. As for the game, looks like a great pitching matchup. Ober just continues to be a really good MLB pitcher and Darvish is always a tough opponent. Let's all rally behind the newest Twins Hall of Famer Alex Kirilloff, and cheer on a Twins win!
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 If only we had a wheelbarrow, and maybe a holocaust cloak. Maybe someone will bring them.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 I’ll be there as well. I hope that all of the difference-makers are in the lineup today. A case can be made to rest a lot of guys—Farmer, Correa, Polanco, Kirilloff, Buxton—and it’s a near certainty that Jeffers catches today. Go Twins!

The team can't afford to rest them all at once. If I was Rocco, I'd consider giving Correa a day off and putting Gordon at short. Keep Farmer at third, Gordon just doesn't have experience there (though I'd prefer flipping those two if I was confident Gordon could play third). If Correa wants to play iron man after having a decent game last night, maybe give Jorge a day off instead. Kirilloff and Buxton should play. Consider giving one of them a day off tomorrow, probably Buxton.

stringer bell Verified Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Well, I expect both Castro and Gordon to be in the lineup somewhere. Buxton is in quite a long 0-fer and Polanco has only had the one day off. Farmer is just back from injury and I guess, so too is Kirilloff. The last weekday day game I attended was the one game that Solano has started at second base. I hope this isn't a repeat.

John Belinski Verified Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 It appears this will be a low scoring game so the Twins do have a chance to win this game. Will probably need several good pitching performances from both the starter and RP.
Jerr Verified Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 I'll be there and will bring another Twins win! Bank on it.
Musk21 Community Moderator Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Today's Twins Lineup Buxton - DH Kepler - RF Correa - SS Kirilloff - 1B Polanco - 2B Gordon - CF Farmer - 3B Gallo - LF Jeffers - C
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Lineup looks pretty similar to yesterday, with Gordon in CF and Jeffers catching. Twins want to win this one.
wsnydes Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 This sucks, yet not unexpected, but Mahle shut down to have Tommy John surgery.

Might actually be the best case scenario to get value from the trade. I went straight to the main thread to say sign him Paddock style but was at least third in line to say it.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 I;d still like to see Polanco at third, and Julien in MN at second. then hope for no ground balls.....

I watched that first Julien game at second and… woof. I’m going to need to be sold he’s viable anywhere on the diamond.

He's useless if not used somehow......and they seem determined, despite all evidence, to use him at 2nd and not first......I'd trade him, if they won't use him at DH.....

Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 I think I’ll hope for Lewis and Lee. They seem to be the actual future.

Sure, though I'd put Lewis in center......but sure. I mean, I'd call up Lee for third right now. Atlanta called up AA players with little (but more than Lee) experience last year.....but no chance MN does this any time soon.

Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 People were worried about Ober and Varland getting a chance; looks like both of them are fixtures until their arms fall off.

My concern with Ober was/is....if he's really innings limited, why not start him in MN, and start Maeda in the pen....then when Ober is out of innings, do something else? But, that shipped sailed, and I think they just let Ober go....and go....
