There is literally no value or point in being in on a top SS options this off-season. Royce Lewis is the answer until further notice, so let’s save the money to use on an Ace like Rondon and snag Iglesias for cheap.

The only way we convince Correa to resign is if the market collapses and there isn’t enough interest for him, which I highly doubt.

Signing Iglesias to play SS is roughly the equivalent of signing Matt Shoemaker to be in your rotation.

It'll do nothing to help you win, but somebody has to stand out there.

This is the worst comment in the thread. We never had pitching, we have Royce Lewis. Iglesias is league average, Shoemaker died on the mound for us.

Lewis had been hurt for three years.... You willing to bet he's going to stay healthy and not be Buxton?

Similarly, Rodon was hurt each of the two years before this.... That's some serious risk for a pitcher.

We don't have any version of Royce Lewis until midseason, at which point he's most likely not any kind of answer at SS.

And Iglesias is only "league average" if we're talking the International League.

I really don't know anything about Iglesias.  But - this is the kind of guy (or let Gordon do it for half a year) I would want to hold down the fort until Lewis is ready to go.  That allows us to really spend whatever budget remains on pitching.

The Twins not having a SS ready to at least Stan out there and play the position and then letting  Palacio go doesn't make much sense, but then neither did signing Correa.

Lewis & Miranda should have been penciled in from the start & that 35M spent on pitching.

Now Lewis is hurt because they played him out of position in their rush to keep his bat in the  lineup. Why did we trade for Martin if he can't play SS (hit apparently) again?

Sign a Frontline starter, sign Fulmer and if Iglesias can back up SS & 3B until (hopefully) Lewis come back, then fine.

Unless Urshela can do the same.

Frankly they need Kiriloff at 1B and a power hitting OF with speed more than anything. Neither Larnarch & Walner fit that bill. If they can sign that "guy" for the corner OF, doesn't matter who plays SS.

If they don't get quality pitching it doesn't matter but they will go the cheap way and put Polanco back at SS and Arrez at 2nd.

Lewis played center in the AFL. He wasn't hurt from playing center.

I'm not sure I like any approach here too much. Injuries do that. But, with shifts removed next year, it may be helpful to have a defense-first SS above average range. If Iglesias is still that, not a bad stop gap.

I'm unenthusiastic about Iglesias. he's got zero power and I'm of the opinion that he's not exactly an elite defender at this stage in his career. I'd probably go for Elvis Andrus if you just wanted a bridge option to Royce Lewis or Brooks Lee.

but I would definitely prefer they sign Correa to the 7 year deal (even 8?) we'd need to get it done. he's a terrific player, and outstanding defensive player whose skills are likely to age well at the position. (Correa makes the exceptional plays more through his powerful arm, tremendous wingspan, and intelligent positioning over footspeed and quickness, IMHO) he hits for a good average, he hits for good power as a SS, and he takes walks. he's a great teammate and a really smart player. I watched him on the broadcast the other night talking SS play with Jimmy Rollins and I'm on Team Correa.

I love Royce Lewis, but unless you're going to get an elite starter (and the market is a bit dicey for that), I would be thrilled to lock down an all-star SS for the rest of the decade. I'm completely baffled that people seem to think Correa wasn't good this season, because to me he passes every single test.

Their fans should be pissed. Cubs have deep pockets. Of course, they're Cubs fans so they don't mind losing as long as the keg still has beer in it.

Hey . . . i resemble that (hicup) comment.

Wonder what Alberto’s Mondesi  or Nicky Lopez would cost from the Royals?

Dont want to pay Correa that 35 million for the next 7 8 + years.

Probably $6mil for Modesi as the talking head consensus seems to be that he will be non-tendered, especially with a new GM coming in.

He seems a better option than Iglesias. Might be a good change of scenery candidate.

Mondesi can't stay healthy (hello Mr. Buxton) but if I could sign him for $6 million I would in a heartbeat.  I just LOVE his talent and potential.  I'd rather gamble on youth and potential than throw money at old has-beens like Elvis Andrus or Jose Iglesias.  The Twins could sign a non-tendered Mondesi and STILL see Royce Lewis get healthy and become the SS of the future.  Having game breaking speed like Buxton, Lewis and Mondesi on our team could prove very interesting.  We'd need a new manager though.  Rocco consistently attempts fewer SB's than any team in the league.  His initial year, record setting HR team broke him.  He has no desire or ability to "create" runs.

Nicky Lopez would require a trade, but that kid can pick it.  As long as the Royals have Bobby Witt Jr. there's not much need for Mondesi and Lopez unless K.C. plays Lopez at 2B.

My "preference" would be to resign Correa.  But if cost is "prohibitive" I wouldn't mind looking at Mondesi or Lopez.  I'd still like to have serious discussions with Miami for young SP'ing by dangling Larnach or Wallner or even Kirilloff or Kepler.  We have FOUR (4) !!  LH hitting OF'ers and at most can play 1 or two at a time.  I'd like to follow the Cleveland model and stockpile power arms.  I Rec'd a LOT of comments from a lot of different viewpoints because I believe there is not a simple answer, nor an unquestioned "correct" answer to this question.  We have Lewis and Brooks Lee who could very well be major league SS material.  We also have Miller who may be as well.  None of them can give the Twins an entire season at SS NEXT YEAR.  Something needs to give.
