Montas Trade

Battle ur tail off

Honestly, while I hate the Yankees, this was a good move for the Twins. Montas helps the Yankees in the regular season, but at this time all they're fighting for is the #1 seed. Is he even going to be one of their top three or four starters in the post season? Better the Yankees have a somewhat redundant post season pitcher than a peer team getting a starter that will shore up their regular season rotation.

Right, if not MN, the Yankees or Astros were the best destinations for him for the Twins.

If any of these prospects work out for the A’s, the Yankees can trade for them back with future prospects. Pretty courteous of Oakland to be the Yankees’ MLB development system.

It seems like the package Seattle gave up is way more than what the Yankees got.

Oh well, we have called up Sanchez.

Agree that the Mariners gave up more but I also think Castillo is a much better pitcher than Montas.  It's Sanchez to Sanchez tonight for the Twins.

1 top 100 prospect and some average guys. Falvey will claim how overpriced that was.

That's what I was thinking.  After reading about the trade pieces it didn't sound like it would've been hard coming up with a better trade than that.  It's too bad we couldn't get that done.

Shades of their Kansas City days.  Maris, being the best known example.

The A's always want MLB ready types (or those who will be ready next year). MN had NONE of those available in pitching, due to injuries and ineffectiveness. No way they can match that deal, given Oak wanted pitching.

You'd expect that OAK would get a premium but they got fleeced. How lucky can those d..n NYY get! I'm sure the Twin could have put together a better trade package but OAK must've wanted pitching prospects and liked theirs better than ours.

Hope this sets a new president for the remainder of the time. Hope we get our holes filled soon!

I believe I heard that's now 33 prospects dealt out of NYY's farm SINCE THE START OF 2021.

THIRTY THREE.

Apparently, someone besides me thinks prospects are the most overrated thing in the universe. I wonder how many fans in NY are wringing their hands over the cost.

Just for comparison sake,  it would be like trading Ober, Balazovic, Varland and Julien.    No offense that is way to rich for Montas.

are you joking?

As other have said, I'm disappointed that it seems like the front office is yet again content with staying pat at the deadline this year. While we were never going to match Seattle's offer for Castillo, I don't see how a team that is in desperate need of a 3rd playoff-caliber starter can't match the Yankees' offer for Montas. If I understand correctly, they weren't even one of the teams in the mix at the end. I'm really curious as to what kind of offer they were making if it wasn't even worth considering for Oakland.

On the other hand, compared to the return that Castillo and Montas have garnered, the offseason trade for Sonny Gray looks like an absolute steal. While I don't think Gray is at the caliber of a Castillo or Montas, he is pretty close, and they got him for one prospect that wasn't even in their top 5 prospects. And Gray came with 2 years of control, not 1+ years. I disagree with a lot of the front office's moves, but that was a pretty savvy trade by them.

If we need a pitcher, two relief pitchers, possibly outfielder or catcher yes it’s too much for 1 player.  We can’t completely deplete the farm system,
