Norm Cash supposedly carried a 2x6 to face Bob Gibson game 1 of  the 68 world series whe Gibson fanned 17. He told the ump he couldn't hit Gibson with a bat so he'd try his luck with a bigger piece of lumber. Don't know where they would find a 2x6 at a stadium

Just now able to chime in. I was in the car for the first part of the game, listening to Cory and Dan on CCO. I've made no secret about my opinion about Gladden's inability to do play-by-play, but when Franmil Reyes was at the plate for his first AB they were talking about how he was performing this year. (He is striking out way more than just about everyone.) Gladden reviewed some of his stats and said, "He's not doing much for you other than looking good in a uniform." LOL, literally.

I don't disagree, but look what happened in 1899:

I wouldn't want my team associated in any way with that. Plus, in this day and age it was to the team's advantage to find a name with the least amount of potential copyright infringement issues, no matter how lame is the name. BTW, that's also how we end up with nicknames like Wind Surge and Mighty Mussels.
