Nate Palmer Twins Daily Contributor Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Music always adds a little spark to the stadium experience. With Josh Donaldson now a member of the Minnesota Twins, here are some songs that need to be considered as additions to the Target Field stadium mix for 2020.Now that the Minnesota Twins officially have Josh Donaldson, the bringer of rain himself, on the 2020 roster it is time to think about the real important stuff. What are some great in stadium songs that need to be played with such a man joining the Bomba squad? Here are five songs that should be considered in no particular order. Purple Rain by Prince This is an easy one. A slam-dunk on the eight-foot hoop in your childhood driveway. It is so easy Pick and Shovel Wear already themed a shirt in the same vein. It is the true Bringer of Rain meets Minnesota with Minnesota’s own in Prince. And the Twins already did the umbrella thing with Purple Rain so it is a perfect match! The only disqualifier when it comes to this list is that I believe it is already in the song rotation. Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head by B.J. Thomas See: World Series Champion Washington Nationals and Baby Shark. The Nationals ran with a kids favorite on their way to the championship this past season. While Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head isn’t quite the same in popularity at the moment, it is still a kids’ favorite. Since sports are often copycat in nature, why not? Plus, if it leads to people throwing Lemon Drops, Gum Drops, and other forms of candy in the air during a game for me to eat. Count me in! Chocolate Rain by Tay Zonday In 2007 Chocolate Rain by Tay Zonday became an internet and YouTube sensation out of nowhere. For many, that is where the Twins 101-win and playoff season came from -- out of nowhere. It is also how the Donaldson signing felt when the notifications started hitting each of our phones and Twitter timelines. To celebrate why not throw it back to this internet sensation from an unlikely place. **step away from mic to breathe** I Wish It Would Rain-The Temptations Just imagine it. It is the bottom of the ninth, Twins down but in striking distance and Donaldson is due up against the visiting team’s closer. In the lead up to the Twin’s half of the inning the fan base starts crying out for rain. The downgrade on this song is as it was recorded by the Temptations is it isn’t quite a stadium thumper. Maybe someone could remix it? Maybe Mauer can hit up TI to add some more bass to this classic. Who’ll Stop The Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival This selection is made with a similar thought process as the previous one. Although, this time instead of being played in order to encourage the Bomba squad, specifically Donaldson, to make in rain. This one asks who will stop it. It would be perfect to be squeezed in right as the visiting team needs to make a change after a Twins towering home run. Bonus: Rain is a Good Thing by Luke Bryan You know, because rain is a good thing! What are some songs you would consider and why? "Smoky Mountain Rain" (keeps on fallin') is the appropriate choice after a second homer. bird, Tom Froemming and Nate Palmer 3

strumdatjaguar Verified Member Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 I have a better five, only agreeing on Prince “Purple Rain” as #1 for local connection, although it is less celebratory and happy about the bringing of rain than the next ones (notice I exclude songs that regret Rain like “Let It Rain” by Clapton Or “Rainy Days and Mondays” always get me down):2. “I’m Only Happy When It Rains” by Garbage3. “Singing in the Rain” Gene Kelly (play the craziest part of the scene from the classic movie)4. “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” (coming down on a sunny day) Better choice for a Creedence CR song. Play it for home run trot during day games 5. “I Love a Rainy Night” by Eddie Rabbit for night games. bird, Nate Palmer, jkcarew and 2 others 5
strumdatjaguar Verified Member Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 OK. The Garbage song probably gets deleted: the lyrics “Bring Your Misery Down on Me” may be too much for often snake-bit Minnesota sports fans. The Twins won’t listen to us anyway. They used to have the stupid Dance-off. This is the team that played “Love is the Drug” after two Teen Challenge rehab graduates threw out the first ball and played the raunchy “Lust for Life by Iggy POP during a pitching change (I sang along). They ignored my suggestion that Jon Rauch have the greatest closer song that a tall guy could have had - “I Stand Tall” by The Dictators (starting with final guitar solo into the repeated I Stand Tall chorus). This is futile Tom Froemming and bird 2

Darius Verified Member Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 I don’t get the “purple” rain connection everyone has been making. I get Prince is from Minnesota, be he had nothing to do with baseball, purple has nothing to do with the Twins, and it would be an awful song to play at a ballpark after a homer. That’s the thing, most songs with “rain” in the title are slow depressing songs about being heartbroken. It’s just forcing it to make them “rain” connection. Sam Morley and MMMordabito 2

MMMordabito Verified Member Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Twins Daily needs more metal heads.RAINING BLOOD - SLAAAAAAYYYYER!!!! I went to a Slayer concert at Roy Wilkins Auditorium once and my friend told me they played the entire Reign in Blood album. As we left the concert hall, I witnessed a couple other concert-goers. There was a medium-build guy and his friend who was a big, strong, bald guy with a long full goatee. Medium-build guy: "That was the best concert that I've seen." Big guy: (Grabbing the other by the shoulders and looking him square in the eyes) "NO, that was the ONLY concert!"
strumdatjaguar Verified Member Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 In the Cascades song, the singer sings about how the rain reminds him of “What A Fool I’ve Been”. I’m hopeful that signing The Rainmaker was NOT foolish.

I've always wanted to hear the opening of Raining Blood, starting with the sound of rain into the opening riff, as a Twins closer walks from the bullpen to shut it down. MMMordabito 1

Buddy Holly Provisional Member Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 "Hoskuld" aka Josh Donaldson should have his theme song "If I had a Heart" the theme song of the Vikings series. It is my hope he will lead us to the baseball version of Valhalla. Donaldson should be the tough Viking warrior of the Twins.
jkcarew Verified Member Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Things I'd like to see, but never will... Donaldson hits home run. As he rounds the bases...Video board: clip of excited Dustin Hoffman as Rain Man: "Oh-oh! Oh-oh!" Does Donaldson strike me as a guy that would appreciate the bit going in that direction?I don't think so. No, definitely not. Definitely not.
