Time to move the radio guy over to FSN (not Gladden) and send Bremer out to pasture with Gordo.

Dick Bremer’s wife used to be my babysitter when dinosaurs still roamed the earth. My mother still gets Christmas cards from her folks.

What's with the netting going all the way down the line? Looks stupid. Does that impede your ability to watch the game?

It's for safety. I know some have questioned why all MLB teams haven't implemented nets that span the entire foul line - it's probably something that's coming soon. (it started with a kid getting nailed with a line drive in that area, I think here in Chicago.)

The text feed says there was an on-field delay. What was it? Did SQUIRREL get loose?

Yes, actually

I've been against more nets but after attending another game with my kid this past weekend - this time in prime foul territory in the Delta 360 Club - I have to admit they're pretty much necessary. There was one line drive that was basically me or my kid. I dove over but the ball hit the fascia by *maybe* 6-12 inches and deflected back to the field.

That's no good. It wasn't even about catching the ball, it was about throwing myself in front of the kid.

And I'm not a person who is afraid of baseballs. But that one was straight up dangerous because I couldn't risk "handing it" and missing to let it drill my 47 lb kid.

Both of them broadcast well into the internet years... like over a decade for both.

I won't really defend Dick but I think he's fine. Bert is just awful. He has nothing of interest to say anymore, though I feel he actually had something approaching insight 15 years ago.

Neither is an iconic broadcaster. It's not as if you heard Dodgers fans calling for Scully's head three years ago... because he was the greatest broadcaster in history. That transcends generations. Greatness is greatness, age does not matter.

Maybe he doesn't add much for the hard core fan. But we're the minority of fans. Look at the amount of fans doing the wave. Those are the people who like Bert circling kids on the telestrator. it's a stadium full.

Include me in the "disagree with you" group. Ray Scott was a generic sports announcer who happened to work for the Twins for a bit. Herb was a baseball guy through and through and he also had the pipes and the talent for calling a game. He is surpassed only by Vin Scully. IMHO, of course.

idk, Ernie Harwell was pretty darn good too.

and the amount of parents sitting on phones with young kids sitting next to them...

Yeah, that's part of the reason why I was against more nets; it ruins my experience because others don't pay attention.

But actually paying attention and being put in that position rapidly changed my mind. Paying attention matters but sometimes doesn't solve the problem.

100% agreed, but if you had a 50/50 shot at protecting your kid from a foul line drive while watching the game, you have zero chance while screwing around on your phone

Bah, Schoop, leave him out of any post-season planning, please.

It’s your fault. You jinxed him by

being just a bit too smug earlier

Yeah. I have little sympathy for the phone 100% situation but the paying attention 50% situation is pretty disturbing.

That ball was nasty. I think it was off Cruz' bat and had to be knuckling backward at close to 100mph. Again, I'm not scared of baseballs but that was curving backward and flying at such a rate that I couldn't read where it was going to hit without just putting myself sideways (because it's not as if you can just shift your feet and stay in front of it when seats are down) and hoping for the best.

Well, acorns

But from the tiny acorn, might oaks grow in which SQUIRREL may abound..
