Blake Verified Member Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 Well, the day managed to slip away, because, for some reason, work decided that I should actually work at work, rather than look at baseball stuff and think about game threads. The nerve! I shan't go over history, because it's over and done with. Instead, I plan to take each day, one at a time, put forth my best effort, and let the chips fall where they may. Now that the standard platitudes are behind us, I hope the Twins get after it and battle their tails off the rest of the season. It's a race and the Twins are contenders! And, because things are running way behind, it's time to put some random thoughts down: !. What was Diaz thinking?2. What was Diaz thinking?3. What was Diaz thinking?4. What was Diaz thinking? Lineups: 5. Play ball!

jz7233 Provisional Member Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 One thing I don't like about Rocco is that he's quite inactive during the game. Very few steals, very few pinch hitting, very few pitching matchups (chess game). A lot more needs to be done in the game. Play fundamental and smart baseball!

Play fundamental baseball! When you hit the most homeruns in baseball, risking an out on the bases is foolish. A HR scores a runner from any base.

For me, none of the credit. All of the blame. At least until i know my way around the goat. Yeah... goatscape is topologically tricky to navigate.

With Buxton out, who would you expect to be stealing?

Twins' hitters have not been clutch. Advancing runners is still a critical part of baseball game.
Platoon Verified Member Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 When you hit the most homeruns in baseball, risking an out on the bases is foolish. A HR scores a runner from any base.True, as long as the HR's are flying, and you are facing pliant pitchers. But, sometimes you gotta make your own luck. That said I think the reason Rocco sits on his hands most games is that stealing and bunting seem statistically passe. I also doubt Rocco is a hunch guy.
jz7233 Provisional Member Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 With Buxton out, who would you expect to be stealing?I guess Buxton is the only one on the team who could possibly steal a base.

Mr. Brooks Verified Member Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 I guess Buxton is the only one on the team who could possibly steal a base. He's the only one who can do it successfully often enough to justify the risk. Teams are realizing that making outs on the bases is really bad strategy. It's not just the Twins. Stolen bases are way down across the league.
ashbury Verified Member Posted August 13, 2019 Posted August 13, 2019 Twins' hitters have not been clutch.Team BA has been higher with men on base (and more specifically with RISP) than bases empty. Ditto for slugging average.https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/split.cgi?t=b&team=MIN&year=2019#all_bases

bighat Verified Member Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 I'm guessing Perez has to see the writing on the wall and knows he's pitching to keep his job right now. Wish there wasn't so much pressure on this team, but every game it seems like there's something.
