Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 he looked active, but now that you mention it.... went to the blue wahoos website, and he’s still on the IL.Rats!Come on up Devin SmeltzerI would have liked to have seen Thorpe again ... but I think it's too soon for a recall there.
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 I would have liked to have seen Thorpe again ... but I think it's too soon for a recall there.Since there's a pitcher to the IL, isn't anyone eligible to be called back up to fill the spot?
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 They have a couple of options to consider for tomorrow's game and those options are currently on the 40 man roster. The bigger question... yet to be answered. Who will end up with that open 40 man roster spot and why the need to open it up for a future possibility on July 4th?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Since there's a pitcher to the IL, isn't anyone eligible to be called back up to fill the spot?Ah, right ... but didn't we already recall a pitcher for Odorizzi? Not sure how that works, but can we send back the person we already called up in order to recall Thorpe in place of Odorizzi's start? (Asking because I really don't know the nuance of that. And I don't think Thorpe has pitched since last Sunday. But Smelzer hasn't pitched since ... I think Monday or Tuesday ... so either could pitch.)

Yeah, the timing of that was weird, even more so since they haven't filled it. Maybe they thought a deal was more imminent than it became?

Maybe they want to send some scouts even though it’s an exhibition.

Squirrel Community Moderator Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Now that Wade dislocated his thumb: Smeltzer and Rooker. And? Are there 2 open spots on the 25-man, or is a pitcher being sent down along with Wade to the IL?

stringer bell Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 The postgame report said that Gibson is starting tomorrow. With the All-Star break starting in less than 24 hours, I doubt any transaction will be made except to add Cave. If any player is put on the injured list, a player optioned less than 10 days ago could be recalled. Also, Thorpe pitched Friday night, so he won't be pitching tomorrow. If Smeltzer is recalled, another pitcher will have to be placed on the IL, DFAed, or optioned.

Well, guess it’s not him, then.
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 It seems rather risky to have Gibson start on 3 days rest given that he has probably never done so before. I imagine he throws fewer than 75 pitches and then likely Mejia or Littell.

I imagine he throws fewer than 75 pitches and then likely Mejia or Littell.Certainly not in line with everything they have done (extra rest, disabling with injuries that won't even last 10 days etc.). I remember clearly that Gibson was ready to pitch on the last day of the season on short rest in 2015 if the Twins still had a chance at the Wild Card (they didn't). Also Gibson pitched in the 18-inning game and then was given additional days off.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Looks like it's going to be a combination of Gibson and Smeltzer tomorrow, with the possibility of multiple innings from Mejia too. Maybe they use Gibson as an opener...
Jerr Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 I have to say, it is July and we Twins fans are dissecting every little thing, that happens to our Twins. I love this season and keep doing it Twins and TD posters!!!! Been waaaay too long, for this "day one Twins fan" so much fun!!!!!!
howeda7 Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 Sorry to break it to everyone but I just got the call. It seems for diversity compliance, the Twins decide that a 72-year-old coming off shoulder replacement surgery would tick off several boxes on the compliance check list. I've never pitched but they told me that I'm starting Sunday.I have equal confidence in you and Blake Parker.
terrydactyls Verified Member Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 I have equal confidence in you and Blake Parker. I promise I won't twitch and fidget before each pitch. I'll just rear back and throw - and then duck.
