It's Tuesday, no baseball yesterday, well, no baseball that counts, which means Monday was an off-day for the home town nine and, it gives me a chance to toss some word salad and create this series opener thread masterpiece.

 

The object of this opener, much like the opener used in games, is to get the ball rolling and then pass the baton to the bulk-writers. The guys who do the heavy lifting for the rest of series. 

 

Which brings me to the Rays. The Rays are credited with starting the "opener" then "primary" pitcher. Truth of the matter is, though, TD has long used this format. I think the Rays merely lifted the idea from Twins Daily and rebranded to suit their needs. 

 

With that said, I hope Twins Daily, and assorted associated writers, miscreants, low lifes and ne're do wells understand the grave responsibility they have when it comes to influencing baseball. 

 

Call it: "The TD Effect."

*I've been trying to work this in some how and, well, decided to just force the issue. Mainly because I think it's funny.

 

With that, here are some things to think about:

 

1. Can Mr. Gibson rebound from his last not so good start?

2. Can Blake Snell, awesome name and all, fall on his face, just for the Twins?

3.Can Mr. Sano became a regular contributor to the "Bomba" squad?

4. Will Mr. Arraez be allowed to show that he belongs over the next few games?

If I remember correctly, the last time Snell faced the Twins, the Rays had just come from a series in Detroit. Snell himself looked like he had been drinking from the Flint River.  It was one of his few very bad starts that season.  There is precedent!!

I see finding out the lesser of two evils is the story in right field today.  Astudillo's glove vs. Cave's bat against Snell.

it was nice to see even just a wee bit of Minnesota. Alas, kinda wish the Twins had given KC more of a run for their money on Sunday. Can't help feelin' bad for Jessica...

"Buxton (wrist) may require a short rehab assignment before coming off the injured list, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

 

He will take batting practice on the field Tuesday and probably again on Wednesday or Thursday, ruling out an activation during this home series against the Rays. Miller notes that a rehab assignment would likely only be a game or two, but if he needs to go on one, that could rule him out through the end of the week."

Out 11 days and counting ... I'm surprised, but I guess it's this  year's management's MO to let players heal completely before playing.
