Game Thread: Twins vs. Rays 5:10 PM PST (7:10 PM CDT) 6/25/2019

[TFRazor]

Good gibby

[Blake]

Well, this is very competitive.

1. Wood's hair is unbelievably ridiculous.

2. Kepler is going to invest in an elbow pad.

[LaBombo]

Ouch. I’m sitting in 319 and heard that clearly.

Hey, I'm three cells down from you, man! Having any luck raising bail?

The more Twins Daily doubts La Tortuga, the stronger he grows.

[David HK]

Ouch!

Man, I hope Kep is OK.

Now I really wanna see somebody rip a liner through the box...

I was at the 1996 Olympics and Cypress was granted a women’s sprinter a spot in the 100m dash. I’m not sure of the loophole which allowed her to run as her qualifying times were nowhere close to normal Olympic eligibility, probably something to do with country representation. I was in high school at the time and in track myself, and while thrilled the woman got to represent her traditionally overlooked country, I was immediately aware that while she ran for a PR in the race, it wouldn’t have even qualified for the North Dakota Class B state meet.

I was reminded of that story watching Astudillo and Sano score on that Garver single.

Irritating geography lesson:

Cypress is a tree.

Cyprus is a lovely and underrated country that I lived in for a time and would absolutely go back to.

[IndianaTwin]

Discussing when Buxton might be activated from the DL, Provus noted that Byron had done some hitting in the cage today. The always-insightful Gladden chimed in to point out that Buxton was also able to run the bases during warmups.

Uh, Dan, it was a wrist injury.

[jud6312]

Here's hoping they pulled Kep as a precaution. I can't imagine rolling with Eddie, Cave, Turtle for more than a couple of innings.

[LaBombo]

A little worried about Astudillo, his HPP (hits per pitch) is sinking dangerously close to .500 for the game.

[Mill1634]

Let's hope Buxton is able to be activated tomorrow, because I would venture to guess Kepler will be out of the lineup even if he does avoid a trip to the DL.

[jud6312]

So is Wood basically the Walmart brand Lincecum?

[Blake]

I think it's time for Sano to be optioned, unfortunately.

[USAFChief]

Ouch. I’m sitting in 319 and heard that clearly.

Chief Jr II is somewhere in the same area.

[TFRazor]

Raphael, Michelangelo, Donatello and Astudillo

[Jham]

That was a fun at bat for Tortuga. He laid off a fastball below the zone he was racing for and tapping out to 2nd on earlier in the year. Pitchers realized he would keep doing it and kept throwing it there. Tortuga adjusted back by laying off that pitch and getting a fastball up which he lined for a hit. Guy works hard and wants to be good. He was just as excited about laying off the balls as getting a hit. I like his chances to continue adjusting.

And Cypris Young won over 500 games in the big leagues!

You have to look at his xHPP+ though, and that doesn't stabilize for a hitter until 34.2 plate appearances.

When are the twins going to invest in softer padding on the center field wall? They can get that My Pillow guy to sponsor it.

[LaBombo]

So is Wood basically the Walmart brand Lincecum?

Correct. Consumer Reviews says Great Value Lincecum good, Great Value toilet paper bad.

Made right here in MInnesota!

[David HK]

Cripe, this pitcher ain't "Wood," he's Wooderson from Dazed and Confused.

He's the creepy 27-year-old dude who hits on your high school girlfriend at the keg party down by the river.

And he probably drives a van.

[jud6312]

I'd say Gibby should plunk someone for retribution, but I think having to go back to Tampa is punishment enough for the Rays.

[LaBombo]

That could be the stat that finally tempts me into subscribing to FanGraphs premium.

I love high school girls! I get older, they stay the same age

[twinssporto]

I did not want to watch this game tonight!  I have to do game thread intro tomorrow and didn't want to get influenced by negative vibes...we're up by 7 so who cares...Tomorrows opener involves artichokes, gas grills, sirloin steak and graham crackers.

[TFRazor]

Still good gibby

[USAFChief]

That one hit the C ring.

[70charger]

Well hey, they got the lead runner.

[David HK]

Wow, shades of the old 'Dome on that popup...
